  1. Hi, Does anyone know the history behind the gearbox used in the Sherman? Is it the same, I.e dimensions and internal ratios as Grant/Lee? Was it a gearbox used for something else beforehand or specifically built and designed for the Sherman? Does any one know the TM manual number for the gearbox? Or is there anywhere online I can gain more information on it? Has anyone ever replaced syncros in these gearboxes, if so was it NOS parts used? As I have encountered a few lately that have syncro problems I.e. they just grind until you come to a halt and then go into gear. If I can't find a supply of NOS parts I am looking into getting the parts manufactured. Also if anyone knows the design limitations on these gearboxes, I.e the manufacturers torque and horse power input. Thanks, Mark
  2. Here are a few pictures that I took at the weekend in Belgium. The show had a good variety of different vehicles WW2 onwards... The stalls are logically laid out, two long rows so you know you haven't missed any! Mark

  10. hi my boss must have read this Category 1 and Category 2 Two or more abnormal indivisible loads may be carried if: each load is the same character; and they are loaded at the same place and carried to the same destination; and the overall width of any vehicle used does not exceed the width necessary to carry the widest single load; and the overall length does not exceed the length necessary to carry the longest single load. An abnormal indivisible load consisting of engineering plant, together with constituent parts detached from the plant, may be carried if: the engineering plant and its detached parts are loaded at the same place and carried to the same destination; and the detached parts do not constitute any lateral, forward or rearward projection of the load that exceeds any projection existing without those parts. i put the above plant stuf in as i did not know how they carried loads of crane counter weight at the same time. also might hit it from a another angle recovery is out side of c and u stuf ie sizes and can recover 2 broken down things both 432 in pic broke down had to be winched on . 432 are over size i believe as this is problem when going to register them. this reminds of when we first started on the police recovery contract we were told we can not tow a artic as one as this is a divisible load so good for us as we could charge for two recovery trucks but quite rightly owners complained said no one else done this we were then told we can tow an artic as one right or wrong i still do not know legally.
  11. Hi, I always like a thread with pictures! Mark

  17. Hello, Does any one know where you can get what I can only describe as rubberised canvas? It is 2.5mm overall thickness, the internal canvas sheet is 1mm. All of the Harley companies that I have come across that sell WLA parts and spares all seem to sell the leather flaps for th bottom of the legshields but my original (see picture) and the manual states that they should be rubber. Thanks, Mark
  18. Hi, I had a similar steering problem on a Sabre that I had that was supposed to be a ground up restoration. Instead of checking the cylinders silver paint was just put on the top! Included are pictures before and after the rebuild. Mark
  19. Hi a person named warrwick Bolton has a very nice amx 13 that he restored he likes a chat if you pm me will give you contact number unless you all ready know him.
  20. Hi from the pictures it looks like the one we put fake drop side hinges on this one had under cab rot but was the main m35 used as in had a slightly bigger steering wheel so was less effort for the stunt man to steer! This came from a yard in Belgium with a couple of humvees trucked to Spain where we painted it and matched it to the other one filmed in Spain then got trucked down to morocco so there is a small bit of its history:-)
  21. hi the company i work for would charge £250 plus vat from ricky to rex gives you a figure to work with. the drop side hinges on the truck are they made out of wood ? as on green zone we had two m35 which we had to make look the same one was a non drop side and one a drop side which they brought from a freind in watford.i was told a person in ricky got all the humvees and the two m35s so i am presuming this is one.
  22. Hello, Could someone post some pictures of what an original rack/carrier looks like for a wartime military Matchless G3L? As I am looking for one but have come across three different styles of rack! This seems to be the most likely but I cannot find a good close up picture of an original! If any Matchless owner/expert could share their knowledge it'd be much appreciated. Thanks, Mark
  23. Hi, As David said you can configure the 6-71 Detroits in all sorts of ways and rotations but there is expenditure to convert right hand rotation (the most common that you are liable to come across on the 6-71) to do this because some key parts are directional sensitive such as the cam shaft, crank shaft gear helix, idler gear helix, starter motor, crank shaft oil seal. Just these few items to buy would be approx. £1500 so it would be quite a financial saving if you can already get them as left hand turn. Whilst the oil pump can be configured to run on either rotation the pipe work would have to be completely redone for the triple oil pump which you cannot buy so would need to be fabricated. There are some key parts to the M4/M3/M10 6046 twin packs that you can no longer buy commercially i.e. the triple oil pump, oil pump piping, fan drive, oil pump gears, fly wheel.clutch You say Vickers with the Shervic Project were using the M4A2 engines and only needed one engine on the heavy tractor so had to convert half of them. Both M4A2 6-71 Detroits are left hand turn so would they not be converting them all if all were destined for the tractor? You are right the oil plugging would have to be watched, the devil is in the detail as they say! Mark
  24. hi do you know if any of the 6-71 fitted are left hand turn? or do you know the model number of the engines?
