  1. In a similar vein - I've replied to adverts on Milweb for a tracked vehicle - they don't give a price (it's on application) they want your name, address and contact number and also say no time wasters... So I gave my name, address and contact number - he told me the price (which means he knew what the price he wanted so he could have put it in the advert, there were no offers) it was too expensive so I didn't buy it... So does it make anyone asking the price and not buying a time waster? Surely if you don't put a price then you cannot expect not to have timewasters!
  2. Hi, I have been looking for an M6 myself. The best I have been offered is in the USA - see pictures. He also had the Walker Bulldog based HST which I have also attached the pictures of. Unfortunately I was only sent one picture of the M6. Does anyone know if the tracks were just used on the M6? Regards, Mark
  3. Hi, I have a burnt original manual and a parts manual but I've got 2 very good copies which I use day to day from the Cletrac Mecca in the USA which is Zimmerman Oliver Cletrac web address is www.olivercletrac.com. I visited them when I was in the USA and they are helpful and more than willing to show you around their collection. They copied their original manuals very well and hard cover them. They helped me out with quite a few bits i.e. plugs, points condendser, dizzy cap, thermostat and all of the rubber handles and plastic knobs for the lights. They are worth trying for the parts and manuals. Regards, Mark
  4. Hi, Nice to see another up and running Cletrac! Do you have the engine side covers? Do you have the aircraft energiser that goes on the dynamo/generator side, if so could you post a picture of it or if you do not have one do you know what it was used for? I have all the cab frame work on mine and also all the canvas roof, doors and side curtains if you do not have these and you wanted to I can get them copied and send them to you for cost. I would use Allied Canvas; but if you had a preference of any other company in the UK I would go with that. Do you have a spare voltage reostat and volt meter? A tatty one would be OK as I can get it refurbished. Track wise I am dealing with a company in the UK that looks promising to make them. I have been lent a sample section of track which I sectioned. I will take this to them so hopefully something will come of this. Also do you have the original battery box? I was lucky as I was lent one to copy which cost $700 to do. It does neaten that side up, so when puttin the canvas on it fits nicely around it. Could you post more pictures of yours, like each side and the dash area? Thanks Mark
  5. Hi, Thanks. It was a European import but the Chaffee that Chris Muys had were in alot better condition. So in hindsight I should have got one of those! Mark
  6. Pictures of the Chaffee hydromatic gearbox not in too grim condition having been submerged in water! Breakbands appear to be not worn compared to new ones - the transmission just needed complete disassembly to get water out of it like all of the servo cylinders and valve block. I did buy a M5 Stuart rear transmission oil pump - it looks very similar to the M24 but there are differences in the oil pump and the porting casting. I have been told that they are different but in what ways I do not know, if anyone else can tell me the differences between the M24 and Stuart gearboxes it would be interesting to know. This weekend I took some dismantled M18 Hellcat track links (the WW2 metal tracks) to a company to get a quote on rebushing of all of the links and new pins. I will know more on price at the end of November when they get back tome. Mark
  7. Yes very interested in the tracks as I don't think that the ones on it will last very long! Let me know how much... I don't suppose that you have/know of anyone with a Hellcat hub with the Chaffee sprocket as I have a firm that will cast them but I need a pattern? Thanks, Mark
  8. Hi, I thought I would start a thread for one of my current projects. This vehicle was driven to where is was and then parked for many of years, unfortunately all of the hull drain plugs and plates were all water tight so when I got it the engines were under water and it was engine level throughout the hull! The transmission and front final drive although full of water there was no rusting of any of the insides, even the bearing surfaces were clean and good. The parts most affected by the rust were the external components of the engine, oil filter clamps, generator clamps and generator had rotted away. The only internal damage of the engineis the valve seats (8 of which had rotted away) I could not put valve seats in and the water jacket around that area was too thin to machine and make a seat (so the engine machining firm told me,if anyone knows different then please let me know). All seats have now been built up with cast iron welding and machined to do this the engine had to be completely stipped as it goes into an oven for 8 hours at 600 degrees. I left the white metal bearingsfor the cam shaft in as I have new ones - the bearing surface melted! For 8 seats it was £750. I obtained a gasket set for the hydromatic gearboxes from a 1946 Cadillac as most of the gaskets are similar shaped but the hole spacings are different. So I am getting a firm to make gaskets suitable for this gearbox. I will be getting 10 of each so if anyone needs them I will have them in stock. I have also got the input and output seals in quantity. Mark
  9. Hi, Does anyone know what an aircraft energiser is? And what it is used for? The only clue that I have is that the Cletrac has a rack for it and it is electrically powered off of the Cletrac PTO driven generator. A bit of a cross over territory this and maybe an aircraft question... Thanks, Mark
  10. Hello, I started playing/restoring military vehicles a good few years ago with LandRovers then grew out of them and ended up with a Hippo for a short while (I thought it was great and the biggest thing on the road - I was only 18)! I've always wanted an M211 after I watched Rambo - I still haven't owned one. The hobby escalated from there and I now have a fair few vehicles my favourite being my M274 Mule . Fortunately I have friends that prefer to drive my vehicles whereas I would rather be working on them and obtaining them. Mark
  11. Hi, I have just joined the forum and seen your post. I have got a fully up, running and driveable M2 Cletrac high speed tractor. Do you still need the measurements? If so let me know and I will get my tape measure out... Regards, Mark
