  1. It's a US Mark VII SPG - designed and built at the Rock Island Arsenal in 1919. Based on a Holt 2.5 ton chassis with a 75mm M1916 gun - 2 vehicles built. Info from one who knows these things, over on "Landships"
  2. Get a load of this lot! "Oldtimer Militaris" http://jadarek56.jalbum.net/2012-05-26%20-%20OldTimer%20Militaris/ II International Miliatary Show in Panzer Farm in Chrcynno near Nasielsk (Poland) Everything from battlefield dig finds (I hope all those mortar bombs are inert!), through chunks of StugIII, Sdkfz 222 (?), T34/85, M8 Grayhounds, BT & T34 turrets, through restored softskins, a few WW2 Russian tanks (T34/85, ISU152 ARV - that's a rare beast), artillery pieces, a RR Meteor engine (Anyone restoring a Comet & needs one?) to modern AFVs & a pretty good Panther replica on a T54 (?) chassis. A Ferret, M4 HST project, etc, etc! Just a taster!
  3. Hercules & a Sea King, I assume they're being dismantled for spares, as there's not a JCB to be seen!
  4. The Dak was flying over Newark, about 4pm (IIRC). Either the airmuseum or the Showground (Locations side by side) Looked great against the clear blue sky.
  5. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sopwith_Triplane A replica is with the Shuttleworth Collection. Even features in their logo.
  6. Yep, it's the one at Duxford that's been restored in its crash scene.
  7. An interesting array of guns. 25mm & 2pdr A/T, 18pdr (?) towed by a variety of vehicles, including Dragons. 7.2" wheeled howitzers & is that an old 9.2" at around the 9m40s mark? Bren spotter gun on a 40mm Bofors! Would that actually work?
  8. At the 5m mark, the "Flying Jeep" that Winnie's getting into. Shouldn't that be a "Flying Kubelwagen", seeing as it's a Fiesler Storch?
  9. Around 3pm, a white C130, doing circuits over the M1, near East Mids Airport. Tried to get a few snaps, but cameraphone wasn't up to it.
  10. I was re-reading a back issue of CMV, with the Sdkfz Foundation's Stug III. Noting the comments about the ~28 differences between Alkett & MIAG produced vehicles & even have 3 or 4 mounting brackets for a driver's seat, with only one fitting. What degree of standardisation was there, between British/American AFVs, of the same variant, produced by different factories?
  11. http://www.saforums.co.za/rlt/index.php?topic=4208.0 Very picture-heavy, MVs start about halfway down the page. Looks like some of the tanks have made their way to the Panzer Farm, in Poland, so whether the rest are still there, is an unknown.
  12. Stalag 154. Fourchambault. Opened in September 1940. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourchambault Pretty much as near to the centre of France as you can get!
  13. Memorial to a pair of Halifaxes, from 578 Squadron, collided in mid air on the night of the 20/21st July 1944. Crashed with the loss of all 14 crew. IIRC, recent excavations of the crash site, found a number of live 500lb bombs.
  14. Two were displayed in Paris, along with a number of artillery pieces (Including a "Big Bertha"). These were scrapped in the early 20s.
  15. Took the chance to call in yesterday, just in time for one of their Lancaster taxi runs. Bloody great to be so close to it, that the wingtip passes virtually over my head, as it trundles by and you can feel the vibrations from its Merlins! Photos taken with a crappy camera on my phone! Can't remember what it is! Jeep Bedford with Queen Mary trailer. QM's got wooden bench seats, so must be used for airfield "tours"' The various bits of wreckage, come from a Spitfire MkV (IIRC), excavated from a Lincolnshire crash site, a Hampden, from a Swedish mountainside - the cockpit & forward fuselage is being restored, plus a Wellington from a remote Scottish moor. The bombs are a 12,000lb "Tallboy", with an 8,000lb lightcase bomb behind it. Can't caption the bigger pictures, but I reckon you can all recognise a Lancaster & link the above info to the right photos! Plenty other artifacts of all sizes, from more wrecks (P38/F5 Lightnings, He111 etc)
  16. Seen at RAF Cranwell on Wednesday. Saw one leaving Thursday & all gone today.
  17. http://www.deepimage.co.uk/wrecks/empire_heritage/empire-pages/empire-mainpage.htm
  18. 3, Bov's got one, Fort Meade another & a third at Fort Benning.
  19. Model 1942 turret, with "Mickey Mouse Ears" hatches. It's now on display in the Victory Park at Poklonnaya Gora, Moscow.
  20. Yep,they're MkVIII "Internationals". The Indiana Jones' tank, was loosely based upon that. Bottom photo show M1917 tanks, US-built versions of the Renault FT17.
