  1. The only problem with a register is that is is usually the first step in a banning process.
  2. Andy, can you post the legislation that states that please.
  3. Actually, I think it went from Canada to Portugal direct in the 1950s but your point is well made!
  4. Nicolas Leloup is a good English speaker, I must have been lucky!
  5. I did the same but introduced myself to M. Leloup and he gave me a tour!
  6. Thanks Gordon, that's excellent. The winch did raise my suspicions a little as it is unlikely many, if any WC-57s were issued to the 8th.
  7. I saw it on the roundabout in Falaise too. ISTR it was an M4A1(76).
  8. You may also be thinking about LVT 2 and 4 that had the M3 Stuart radial, the W-670.
  9. Out of interest Gordon, how was this history traced?
  10. Welcome Abi! I wouldn't worry too much about the spelling, you'll see some real corkers on here! No need to worry about questions either, there is no such thing as a silly question, just silly answers.....
  11. :??? Loran was a US development of GEE principles, a British invention. Nothing to do with the Germans.
  12. That list of range targets came from me via Hannos site. It is a bit out of date now, most of my listings were taken in the 1990s.
  13. Hi Sean, welcome to another madhouse of like minded people! I'm sure you're warmer than many of us right now.......
  14. If it results in an AAIB investigation and I'm not convinced it will, then yes, the report will be published. Any action taken by the CAA is a different thing and may be reported in a different way.
  15. I don't think it could be called archaeology to be honest, it was a matter of removing all the metal in the ground! A lot of research had been carried out beforehand (not by me, I hasten to add) to pinpoint the location and an exploratory dig had been carried out previously. It was a post-war dump of the non-recyclable materials from a larger dump that had not been properly cleared. It was primarily stainless and inconel with a few other non- aluminium parts thrown in for good measure. Not all of it was US origin either. There were a few vehicle pieces but not surprisingly, nothing tank related!
  16. That dig was a little different in that it was not a crash site. In some ways, better as we never knew what was coming out of the hole next!
  17. They occasionally turn up with the battery still fitted, though sadly never for me! ISTR it was a paper or card wrapping with two screw terminals in the top. I still need another Helleson btw........:-)
  18. That 6 pr is interesting in those pictures as it has the counterweight normally seen on the Mk V tank gun rather than the muzzle brake usual to the towed piece.
  19. 30xxxxx were tanks as 30 was the tank prefix so definately wrong.
  20. 50%?!!!! I'll give you 10% and all the Mars bars you can eat. Oh, and a drive of the Sherman....
  21. What can I say.... Is it my boyish good looks? The jaunty angle I wear my beret? Nope, just my wheels (and tracks) I think!
  22. Nope, Eddy hates Shermans and their family!
