It sounds like you're sorted for it now, but we use Duralac (yes...with the boats...again) when putting dissimilar metals together especially masts, where there are stainless fittings attatched to an ally mast, if it wasnt for this the mast would soon corrode and fall over... not an ideal occurance. The riggers on site use nothing else which would imply that as an anti corrosion solution it's probably the best available to them.
  2. Farecla make a specific acrylic window polish (amongst other varying finishing compounds) that will take out fine scratches, we use it on boat windows.
  3. Long old job there Vince:sweat:...I'm presuming you have anti vibration gloves. Our guys in the boat yard use them for needle gun work amongst other stuff. It's looking worthwhile though. Screwfix Anti vibration gloves

  6. Just a quicky, I've been approached by a friend at work who's wife is organising a H4H charity day. It is due to be held at the Clacton Factory Outlet on 5 or 6 of Sept. I know it's short notice but I did say I would put word around because... ...and now comes the catch... The really want a vehicle or two parked up to help attract the crowds. As I say I know it's short notice and I'm not expecting miracles, but if anyone in the North Essex/South Suffolk area (or further afield if you fancy a drive out) has the spare time and fancies a day in sunny Clacton on Sea (with the possibility of a sticky bun) please let me know below.   9. I was searching through the pics posted on the W&P gallery and on the front page it says contact the photographer for a hi res copy. I have found a couple I would like copies of but the problem would be how do I contact them. I know snapper is a member here but I'm not sure of the others. Can anyone help please?

Just got back, having met up (as Rosie has) with Too Tall Mike, Grasshopper their respective halves, and all the others (but cannot remember forum monaker to real name combos...but you know who you are) and a HUGE thanks for the warm welcome and rides kindly offered, you realy made my visit.:saluting: Great show again but as mentioned by others somewhat short of some of the larger tanks... no Chiefs, or Charlies. (Makes note to find out where in Felixstowe Rosie is as it's not a million miles from me and whether she knows Simon Green?)

    Right. As it seems that I'm directly in the firing line here, I'm going to offer my two penneth. I will agree on the matters arising in the opening post to an extent. While it does look a bit silly having equipment wholly unsuited to the age of vehicle, I'm not adverse to, let's say for the sake of the arguement, someone taking a Defender and then Wolfing it or even WMIKing it. For the simple reason at the moment there are few, if any genuine ones in private hands and at a show it can't be denied that these are somewhat more interesting to look aty than row upon row of GS 110 or S3. The same applies to Jeeps to an extent. Would it not be better if someone who was so inclined to recreate a special ops Jeep, started off with a later, less historic model, rather than chop up something with provenance? This does not detract from the point that I do agree that vehicles with genuine history and interest should be maintained as they are. (I'm not a factory fresh fan either, there's normally a story behind worn looking vehicles) Lets take my own case in point...I'm absolutely unashamed to admit my Land Rover is probably as walty as they come, it started life as a 110 SW. I'm not precious about it and I go out of my way (should anyone ask me about it) to explain it's 'history' This history, if you are interested, is that I knew I wanted something a bit different and at the time I wasn't as into the whole M/V scene as I am now. I was good freinds with Ollie Kemp an ex service man who had a business working on Land Rovers and other privately owned M/Vs. He had built his prototype 'Predator' (his own take on a light WMIK type vehicle) and was looking to build another. I suggested if I found a donor vehicle I would be happy to fund it. So on we went. A few years ago Ollie was killed in a helecopter accident after having rejoined. I don't keep my Land Rover solely as a sence of duty... that would be overly sentimental and possibly morbid, I do however keep it because, it's practical, fun, not overly valuable or rare so I feel I could use it daily (if it's not too wet) but most of all because I like it and had a hand in designing it, and if that means I'm going to stick more bits on it, well hey why the hell not! IT WAS NEVER ORIGINAL (whatever original means...frankly though,by definition, it's completely original) I will now reiterate: I DO NOT TELL PEOPLE IT IS A GENUINE M/V. As and when funds allow, I would love to get hold of a genuine M/V, but at the moment, they don't,and being a Land Rover fan my dreams of Wolf ownership remain just that. Oh, and yes I'll be at W&P this year. ***(Seriously, no hard feelings, but each to their own. Most of all please...PLEASE don't let the M/V scene get as cliquey as some other clubs around. that would be a real shame for something that first appeared to me to be a welcoming and all encompassing scene)***
  12. The simplest method I can think of is... If your text is already in A4 ish size,then highlight the text, right click, select 'copy', the open paint, then click edit button, then select 'paste' and tada! there is your text without surrounds, just select 'file', then 'save as' and save it as a monochrome image, title it if needed and there is your text jpeg. hope that helps

With respect to the above, how many would be open to the idea of there being an open session in the W&P arena, where anyone who was happy to, could take their vehicle in and offer rides to the public. A bit like the tank rides but with more variation on offer. I'm sure from what's been said there would be a plethora of owners who would be happy to volunteer their vehicles, I know I would if I had anything worthwhile. what an opportunity to go for a trip around the arena showing off your pride and joy to those who were really keen on it. More of the public would then get the chance to ride on, look at closely and ask things about the vehicles...perhaps for a H.F.H donation. However it would all no doubt come to nothing as HSE would deem it dangerous...or perhaps not, prove me wrong.

  17. I hope to make my annual pilgrimage to Kent this summer, but my co-beer drinker doesn't think he can get time off, thus leaving me a billy no mates. Rather than being the sad sack on my own if this is the case, would any one mind someone parking a funny looking Land Rover & pitching a tent on the end of their group and possibly engaging me in conversation every now and then... even if only to ask if it's still raining. I'm not a loon and I supply my own beer. Cheers

  19. Hear hear too... I'm also lucky enough to see these, living near-ish the old Bentwaters. A few weekends back the Spit was up and there was the distinctive roar, we had some freinds staying with their 9 & 11 y/o kids, when I pointed it out to them, they were in awe... (as amI, truth be told, every time I see it) there was also the BoB memorial flypast coming back from Norfolk that came very low over the village and that truly took our breath away.
  20. I don't think so, but sensibly (as Bodge says), you do have to think of safety, not just yourself but the other road users. It's one thing stopping in a car that can get back up to motorway speeds quickly, another thing entirely if you've got to manage it in a WWII truck. Surely most of the trucks had passengers with mobiles. It should've been called in really, but nonetheless I hope all concerned are ok and the damage can be repaired.

I went as a visitor yesterday (Sat) with the family and we all thouroughly enjoyed it, the Kids especially liked the CVRTs (you'd have to excuse them referring to them as tanks, but at 2 and 4, the intricate differences go a bit over their heads:-D The Fire demonstration went down a storm too. Well done all involved... great show and will deffo be back. (The time in the car on the way there and back was passed by going 'shhhh', every time refrence was made to the secret bunker... kids eh..dontcha love 'em)

  23. This may have been mentioned before, however I was made aware of it recently and it looks like it might be a good craic for the Suffolk and South East MV owners and fans. I think it's in it's second year but already there is a fair amount they're expecting to show/display. I guess the organisers would welcome more vehicles to display, I don't know if they'll charge or not (knowing what a hot potato that topic can be:sweat:) but if anyone's interested, it's on the 14.6.09 at what was RAF Bentwaters Nr Woodbridge Suffolk...
