  1. On this red Diesel topic (which, with the derogation of marine red, may soon become harder to buy from a pump); There is no reason why, if a vehicle is solely used off the highway (trailered to and from events) you cannot use red diesel (gas oil) because the only tax not applied is the road duty. You are free to use red in plant that remaines on site, builders will often use red on diggers and things that get transported site to site. C&E can only dip your tanks if they have stong suspicion or proof that the vehicle has been on the road ( Chieftan owners can sleep easy then ;-)) However there does seem to be a 'get out' of sorts; As we experienced during the big fuel crisis about 5 years ago some folks at work could only get red diesel to run their cars, so a phone call to the bods at Customs house revealed that if they popped along with a reciept for how much red they had filled with, they could pay the road duty over the counter and were then issued with a reciept to prove it if stopped, they take your milage and assume a distance by which you should have used it by (but how many tracked vehicles have odometers :dunno:)
  2. It seems if you want to post an ad on their site then membership is required but I've not delved any deeper to find out what else :dunno:
  3. and it just keeps rolling :schocked: how much damage would have been likely?
  4. I am looking into getting on and have noticed some are labled as wide track and some not. I guessing wildly here, but I presume one is wider than the other, but can anyone tell me how much so or even better post a pic of each for me so i can see any other diffrences. Cheers Tug
  5. Tugger Davis is my 'porn-star name' (first pet's name and mother's maiden name)... mine is mildly amusing, not as funny as the wife's though... 'Tramp Atkinson' :afro: For me, I use my username in other forums and prefer to keep some annonynity... nothing dubious... 8-) honest
  6. grrr, damn you with your time off and armour justifying superior arrival times, lol Is there much to keep you entertained for the extra days before it kicks off?
  7. I notice in the second pic there are two types of can, the American and German design of Jerrycan however I'm sure some of you will be able to shed more light on to when the allied forces took on the more recogniseable German design.
  8. I felt it might be useful/fun/nice/picture-esque/a waste of time (delete as applicable) to also post convoy messages in this thread for those heading to shows and events... safety in numbers 'n all that. well... Any one else heading towards Hop Farm from Suffolk on the Tuesday 17th July?
  9. That sounds good, how about modifying the guns to fire 2&1/2 litre tins of emulsion for that 'big boys paintball' experience
  10. I've seen a kinetic rope in action civvy-wise not on anything as heavy as a CVRT but off road with the landrover club I am a member of. On their course there is 'the bombhole' and one particularly muddy W/E several guys were getting really bogged down in the sandy mud and one of the members decided it'd be quicker to get them out with a kinetic rope, it was quite spectacular with landrovers... using one on something tracked would be... :schocked: I wouldn't want to be standing nearby if it gave up the will to stay in one bit. :schocked:
  11. Cheers Mark, I had found those but prices are pretty high and I fancy the challange of building one. David, thanks, that's something I'd not thought of, I'll keep an eye out for some. Cheers
  12. That sounds like a good idea, if the HMVF logo has been finalised by then, perhaps Jack could make it available as a printable PDF and we can all get a copy. I'm sure we all spend hours and hours trawling the fields and it would be good to spot a fellow member and introduce ones-self.

Yes this is possible, I do it in my landie but just from the mp3 or cd player into some 12v active(powered) speakers as I don't otherwise have an in car unit. Depending on the amp you are using, you can easily buy or make up a lead to suit, starting with a 3.5mm jack (headphone plug) to what ever your amp will take, Phono, Banana or just bare wires on to screw down terminals. I can only guess but I presume it is not going into a normal car head unit? if it is, not all have the capability to plug in an external source and would be worth checking before cutting too many things off :-)
  14. No, definitely by the diameter, we sell literally miles of the stuff at the boat yard. We have a reel ends basket with special deals, you could say... its money for old rope Thank you I'm here all week :-D
  15. New gearbox and non-clonking rear axle and if it had been particularly good over the past year an overhaul on the 129000m V8
  16. Afternoon all, Can anyone point me in the direction for acquiring some plans to build a replica GPMG and/ or 50 cal. (and pintles?), since purchase of either is prohibitively expensive and I could do with a winter project :-) Cheers Tug,
  17. Yup, me three, can't see gallery pics, then when I try to go back a page it gives me the as well
  18. Only noticed that after you pointed it out :-o What really REALLY makes my p**s boil is the people in the black 4x4 who have a go with their child in the back, by all means trash your own motor and take your own risks, but that is just being a tit... deserves to have his sump holed or worse!
  19. Hellfrauds are currently selling these with stickers attatched saying "not for use in the UK" So obviously I didn't buy one for my MP3/DAB player at about £20.00 and I don't have it sitting on my dashboard and don't find it useful for using around the house instead of buying a number of DAB tuners or carrying bundles of CD's around.*cough* Seriously though, they have a range of about 5-10m and needs to be clear line of sight... to have an idea of the power out put, they run off 2 AAA 1.5v batteries, I don't think they're going to worry the BBC transmitters
  20. I'm not ex service but I don't think it's right to wear gallantry medals or rank insignia unless earned, however the exeption to the rule would be re-enacting, if an accurate portrayal of battle scenarios is required then there would have to be some rank identification as there would have been at the time (obviously not medals on the field), as Chappers has said...as films do. If someone is depicting a particular person from history it would then be also important to get all their regalia correct, as getting it wrong would be equally as insulting, like Patton for example in 'Back to the Bocage', how wrong would it be for Art Pope not to be dressed correctly. Basically what I'm saying is it's 'off' to wander round with medals falsely implying they are your own, which is quite clearly not what a re-enactor would be wearing them for.
  21. Loving the Pinkie, if there was an envy smiley it would be...here WI dancing girls... top stuff... hubba hubba... ...I'll get my coat
