  1. I have no idea, he probably has as i dont think he likes to give/sell too much away these days. He popped in to say hello about half hour ago, I could have asked him then, I'll ask him next time. John bought and restored his fisrt MV in 1949, any guesses how many MV's he's owned/restored since then? Prizes at the clubhouse after sundown.
  2. Sunday convoy to Milton Keynes Museum The Saladin cleared the way through the country lanes. Very nice RN truck Champ
  3. Aha! Photos. Soggy Saturday. 3 CMP's and a Bren carrier justr behind them, I think the 2 farthest ones and the Bren are JM's. Lightweight, Austin and the Saladin. CDSW. Prize winner at Beltring Universal carrier, owned by Tobin, who also owns the CDSW. Austin owned by Gordon, the convoy lead vehicle. More to follow.
  4. Isnt St Peters valley in Guernsey Tony?
  5. I was just cruising facebook, and looking at a friend of a friendetc and came across this blog. Its a bloke whos discovered a german bunker at the bottom of his garden in Jersey, and its littered withwith the remnants of occupation. Well worth a look! http://gardenbunker.blogspot.com/
  6. All the best with that. I remember the days when A10s used to fly over here, awesome aircraft.
  7. Were these mentioned in an earlier post?
  8. I was going to furnish this with some photos tonight but left the link cable at work.. But plenty of photos tomorrow. I popped up to Johns farm briefly after work to say hello to a few people and to find out what route the planned convoy was going to take on Sunday. We had a field set aside, tents, toilets etc. The rain today had put a lot of people off from what I could make out, it has been raining all day. Still about 20+ vehicles there though, most of them probably Johns! CMP's, bren carriers, landys, Saracen, CDSW, Austins to name a few. Not forgetting the Iltis of course! Hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow for the road run up to the local museum, and hopefully I will have found the link cable!
  9. Spent a dodgy holiday near Dunkeswell airfield. From what I recall there is a chapel near there deicated to the airmen. I think they were B24's, mostly engaged in sub-hunting and ship protection.
  10. That AA gun looks a bit neglected, cant really tell from the pics though.I suppose it would be hoping too much that it would be up for grabs.
  11. Sounds like a once in a lifetime oppurtunity. Great story and pics!
  12. I seem to recollect hearing somewhere along the line that C8 head gaskets were prone to going in the same place? I might be imagining this though!
  13. National archive has just made available naval records online from the 1800's on .You can do a free search for someones name.
  14. Mr Jones realised it might be time to take his garden shears to the overgrown ivy sprouting out of his garden...
  15. Whenever I have sold a vehicle on ebay I always block out the reg number. You will be amazed what peole (or I for that point) can find out wih a registration number. If it was me, I would take issue with that.
  16. I suppose the dating of the traces may come from wether one track dissects another. If the British truck traces cut through the Italian then the Italian traces would be earlier and vice versa. (Its an archaeology thing!)
  17. Makes you wonder though. I was reminded of a story when I first got the Morris. The heavy haulier who came to take it away said that his father drove a Morris in the BEF pre-Dunkirk. After the chaos of Dunkirk his father was presumed MIA and the family received a letter as such. His father wasnt MIA at all but had escaped on one of the little boats and was at home in front of the fire when the telegram arrived!
  18. Great pics of the work you have done already, keep posting them up. I always wondered what the logistics involved would be in restoring a turreted MV.
  19. Reduction hub? Can you explain, I take it its to do with reducing gearing. How do the mechanics work?
  20. Do the fron seats come out on the Iltis? If so, how do they come out?
  21. Im a bit confused here. If the last crewmember has never been found does that open up the possibility that he survived?
  22. Im the same with magazines Tim! I get on a regular basis Windscreen CMV MMI Britain at War Occasionaly get Old Glory Vintage Spirit. One thing I do get occasionally which you dont is Tractors and Farm Machinery. The classifieds are always worth a look through. Some rare old stuff in the back of that.
  23. Good luck with that. I thought I was slightly barmy taking on the Morris, but you win the prize there!
