  1. Go to the local hire shop and rent a gantry crane or have a look round and see if anyone near you has a forklift that you can appropriate for 1/2 hour or so with driver. I wouldn't want to lift a Ferret turret with a normal engine lifter it isn't stable enough at the height that you will have to lift the turret to.
  2. Plenty of people in this world would like to change history but its up to museums, books and good old fashioned education to stop that happening. It doesn't follow that an interest in the Nazis will also mean that a person will want to become a Nazi. Some people will always naturally fall towards the extreme side of life when times are hard and they feel as if know one is listening to them. That will never change
  3. Ebay's list of prohibited items is a getting longer and longer sooner or later all that will be available is clothes (I could be really sexist at this point). I have seen vehicle spares advertised as classic car parts its a case of being creative with the items description. You won't ever stop the plebs from grassing sellers up who have a ''prohibited'' item some people can't help sticking the thing on the end of there face where it isn't wanted.
  4. ???? I don't think that I need to add more but I'm going too Why would you want to throw the braided wire around the plug wire away? Solder the new wire to the old wire and pull it through. Why didn't you ask before doing that
  5. I am sure that I have some somewhere attached to a seatbelt I'll draw them for you if Chris doesn't come back to you any rush?
  6. Evening Brad glad you could make it better late than never
  7. Thats a great way to do it beats making up a new strap
  8. I suspect that they either went for a silly amount lower than £500 (my bid) or over £5000
  9. I bought one by mistake new old stock. Can you connect that style of harness to the ib2/3 or does it need another box as an intermediary between the types?
  10. I think that most people will have had similar experiences and the old saying no smoke without fire definitely applies.
  11. Black boxes, black pressels and most of the older type of headsets work correctly. I have used the helmets that r meant for use with black faced boxes with yellow fronted boxes and had unpleasant experience playing with the override switch on the IB2 box. When I rotated the override switch it omitted a loud beep on the headset which scared the c**p out of me and it beeping hurt as well.
  12. Personally I prefer the ANR system when its working correctly with all the right boxes and headsets its great. The black boxes r fine they do a job and visually they r correct but the yellow faced boxes work better on the road where it matters. If you ignore the commander up top you're still going to get a belt in the back of the head with either system!
  13. I still have some of my Withams scrap lying around getting me in trouble with her indoors so you have to have somewhere to store you're potential purchase as well as knowing how the thing will be picked up. I think that you have seven days to remove you're items or storage charges will be charged presuming that you don't negotiate something with the management.
  14. Mick Go and have a look some of the Land rovers look good visually in withams pictures its only when you lift the bonnet, look in the back and look underneath that you realise how glad you were that you just didn't have a punt. Any Land rover at the ages that r in the tender now 1985 - 1994 will have rust on the chassis, it just depends on how much. Its not unknown for bits to be missing from the engine (cylinder heads) and the like Having looked at the pictures of Harley Davidson MT350's at Christmas and then seen the bikes I worked out that it would take two bikes to make one good one due to the missing parts.
  15. What colour is the face of the boxes gold or black? Try missing out the pressel and plug it directly into the CB2 any difference in sound? Have you tried swapping the cb2 box for another?
  16. Read page 96 onwards the starting sequence will not be the same but it gives you an idea how a pre-select gearbox works. http://www.ferret-fv701.co.uk/mnuls/ferret_user_manual_1957.pdf Someone else will be along who has driven a Fox to give you advice
  17. I suppose it would be highly politically incorrect to invite the little beeps to touch the vehicle only to fry them as they did so I could think of a few politicians that I would like to offer just such an opportunity too... Only one problem I would soon have no batteries left theres just so many...
  18. The first time I removed the wire from my coil the nice brass washer went ping straight into the depths of the Ferret !
  19. The British Army registration would be or should be 37BA41. Have a look in Pat Wares book on page 55 and see what shape the front side hatches r of 37BA24 (I can't find my book at the moment). Australian army registrations are not in order. Info from the old Ferret Scout Car site. 37BA47 has sloping side hatches. When did it change from square side hatches to sloped? 37BA30 Hull No 456, Mark 1, Transferred to the Australian Army and re-registered as 115163 37BA31 Hull No 457 37BA32 Hull No 458, Mark 1, Transferred to the Australian Army and re-registered as 115193 37BA33 Hull No 459, Mark 1, Transferred to the Australian Army and re-registered as 115192 37BA34 Hull No 460 37BA35 Hull No 461, Mark 1, Transferred to the Australian Army and re-registered as 115180 37BA36 Hull No 462, Mark 1, Transferred to the Australian Army and re-registered as 115177 37BA37 Hull No 463, Mark 1, Transferred to the Australian Army and re-registered as 115181 37BA38 Hull No 464, Mark 1, Transferred to the Australian Army and re-registered as 115178 37BA39 Hull No 465, Mark 1, Transferred to the Australian Army and re-registered as 115183 37BA40 Hull No 466, Mark 1, Transferred to the Australian Army and re-registered as 115179 37BA41 Hull No 467 37BA42 Hull No 468 37BA43 Hull No 469 37BA44 Hull No 470, Mark 1, Transferred to the Australian Army and re-registered as 115182 37BA45 Hull No 471, Mark 1, Transferred to the Australian Army and re-registered as 115138 37BA46 Hull No 472, Mark 1, Transferred to the Australian Army and re-registered as 115184 37BA47 Hull No 473, Mark 1, Transferred to the Australian Army and re-registered as 115185
  20. For my sins I have a register as well more picture based and without hull numbers as I know that they only seem to be in order for the first orders of Ferrets. http://www.ferret-fv701.co.uk/vehicle_register.htm Matt is trying to identify his Ferret and the difficulty that he is having is finding the hull numbers around the Ferret which is his. If they had been applied in order it wouldn't be a problem but they were not. Someone somewhere has the list of what Ferrets went where and what registration matched which hull number. Its an ex Alvis employee that has the ledger. Find him Matt and your onto a winner 32BA79, 34BA97 & 87BA14 haven't yet appeared but that doesn't mean that those vehicles aren't still about they might not have surfaced yet or aren't known to me. Plenty of Ferrets that aren't known to me 'r' still about.
  21. I used two nuts per stud to hold the elbows on as well lesson learnt the hard way though after the exhaust blasted the gasket away. I might have used brass nuts though can not remember at the mo Looking good
  22. Not the prettiest thing in the world but it does a job
  23. I might have a tank spare I bought it off Bob Grundy for about £20 three or four years ago. I haven't had a look inside it for awhile but if you're in need I would rather it went to someone in need than sitting where it is. One of the brass unions has sheared off and I think that some of the screws that hold the petrol sender have sheared off as well. Towards the bottom of the page http://www.ferret-fv701.co.uk/interior.htm Presuming that Robin hasn't already found you a tank give me a shout if you want it
