  1. Seen in Peschiera del Garda, on Lake Garda, Italy. It's an artillery memorial, which I believe to be a 17pdr anti-tank gun I have my reasons to believe that it is British or US, and not Italian. Can anyone confirm?
  2. They (the German government) virtually forced the sale of E10 (10 % Ethanol) fuel, and, like a muppet, I tried it - but only once. I tanked up 40l in my POV (a Hyundai Getz) and drove from Franfurt to Duesseldorf to visit my mother. 225km each way. Compared to other times, driving in the same manner (maybe not according to my navigation system!), I used up to 20% more fuel. So no savings, which was the government's "white lie". I also noticed problems in going up steep hills. Not wishing to damaged my engine, I've gone back to destroying the planet!
  3. Dave look at BAOR Locations, it's got a good section on the Berlin train. Roger
  4. Another couple of current ones of the Bundeswehr: The Mowag Duro IIIP, known as the YAK - and the IED Fuchs. Not a new vehicle, but a revamped old Fuchs. Red Crosses removed, as they are on vehicles in the Stan, due to the Taliban deliberately targeting medics. Both the above vehicles are from the 2nd Medical Training Regiment, Federal Armed Forces Medical Service (combined forces organisation)
  5. I take it you noticed the price tag ???
  6. I don't think that the Typ 82 was actually used for fire-fighting, and I don't think that there was a power take off fitted. This appears to be the definitive list (in German) of Typ82 models. Typ 820 viersitzige Ausführung Typ 821 dreisitzige Ausführung (Funkwagen, leichter Werkstattwagen) Typ 822 Sirenenwagen (motorgetriebene Sirene von Siemens statt der Rücksitzbank) Typ 823 verstärktes Fahrgestell und Panzerattrappe Typ 825 Pritschenwagen-Karosserie Typ 826 Lieferwagenausführung für das Afrikakorps Typ 827 (Typ 92) Kommandeurswagen mit Typ-82-Fahrgestell, KdF-Boden und KdF-Karosserie, Rolldach, 3 Sitze Typ 828 wie Typ 820 Karosserie jedoch aus Holz Typ 155 statt der Hinterräder ein Kettenlaufwerk Typ 157 Schienenfahrzeug Typ 239 mit Holzvergaser Typ 86 mit Allradantrieb (nur 6 Prototypen hergestellt) Typ 82E Kübelwagenfahrgestell mit KdF-Karosserie (nur 688 Fahrzeuge) If they were used by fire-fighting units, then more in utilty/command/medical roles, or towing a small fire pump (TSA or Tragspritzeanhaenger)
  7. Here's the latest in the Bundeswehr inventory. The Mowag Eagle IV. 20 ordered for service in Afghanistan, with a couple of them being retained for training, and some as an operational reserve. One Million Euros +/- some small change each.
  8. camoflagued Sprinter?? Even the armies that use them don't cam them - must be a reason! I must admit Mr Cam Van Man sounds different! (I'm not laughing, honest guv!) As for the antenna mounts, VW Transporters in the Bundeswehr had them mounted on a sort of mini roofrack.
  9. Isn't that "cruel and unusual punishment" ? For the Dennis, I mean.
  10. A CMP Ford, preserved in a military museum in Adelaide An ex-Norwegian Army VW Transporter, in private hands. An Australian Army Peremtie, seen outside Townsville (Queensland)
  11. Or was he looking for cheap car insurance. Sorry, wrong rodent!
  12. You'll find it a lot cheaper to replace than to repair. Apart from that, I'd see if you can find a suitably-sized straight jacket!
  13. light blue? i thought that they were white! You live and learn. Was there any reason for blue?
  14. the mammoth was also a cute hairy elephant with big tusks and an attitude - be careful!
  15. That is correct, it was also the reason why RAF & RAAF aircraft in the Pacific Theatre had only blue and white roundels.
  16. Leider liefere ich nicht nach Australien, und 1,50 ? würden für den Versand auch nicht ausreichen. it reads - Unfortunatel;y I don't deliver to Australia, and 1,50? wouldn't cover the postage costs
  17. I don't think there was a name for it, apart from the generic "Warndreieck" (warning triangle). They were sort of dark yellow with a black surround. From the 1930s , they were illuminated for night driving. Their use was dropped in the late 1950s with the introduction of new German traffic laws (Strassenverkehrszulassungsordnung and Strassenverkehrsordnung) (StVZO and StVO)
  18. Going back to Stirlings, has anyone fired one on full-automatic? I did once, under carefully controlled conditions. It's surprising how quickly the beast "climbs".
  19. Here are some of the U1300L ambulance in the BAT (Beweglichearzttrupp) role. this is a single-stretcher unit with more equipment than the average NHS ER cubicle (not too difficult).
  20. I think that these were generic items, so not specific for any particular piece of equipment.
  21. I got issued one of these in 1973, and I've still got my original issue all metal clasp knife (issed in 1967). This is dated 1952
  22. There was a rumour circulating in the '70s that 3 tanks from B Squadron, QRIH were always parked together, revelling in the names of BULL****, BAFFLES and BRAINS. (like I said, unsubstantiated rumour!)
