1. I have posted a link to here, to the Aussie news site www.news.com.au and also the returned service league. You may want to inform the other relevant veterans organizations as one they are very good at publicising such things plus would most likely want to be involved.
2. Camera phone snaps, so not so great..... forgot my camera Rear hoop and structure cut off . Was using a small angle grinder but had a lot of double panels to cut through, therefore had our guy gas axe the remaining sections I cut larger, then grind back the layers and spot welds to get back to 'just' the centre hoop structure. It basically took 3 hours. Tomorrow I will do the rear hoop which I guess will take all day. LH engine (with aircon) mount cleaned up, a bit. Will try to get this professionally drawn in autocad as apparently no longer being manufactured.
3. From the Lightweight forum I thought that was not a bad idea
4. Pinz aircon Drawing and Sutrak part number The Pinz world is fairly small so if you got bits I know the guys that need to know. Tie rod ends are another weird item we have yet to identify. Anyway after having several beers today I am going to look at your site and see if I can learn anyrthing but is good to know there is somebody else as know of 4 UK suppliers, 3 are good to ok and 1 is rubbish and incompetent
5. I have both pinz and sutrak part numbers. ill post tomorrow when I get to okinawa
6. hmmmm I must be getting obsessed with car bits.... forgot all about scantily clad models and starlets :nut: this could be a bad sign
7. Any type of part numbers are very useful, thanks!! It can be a nightmare to cross reference parts so of I have been compiling a list of bits interchangeable with other vehicles. Spent way too many hours searching through merc and vw parts. Always looking for parts lists and books as it's an expensive toy if you can't find the loopholes eg OEM aircon compressor 1500 Euro, same one direct from manufacturer 275 Quid Just on a flight to Japan so I'll have to update my list when I get back. By chance where you getting nsn numbers from?
8. I think a VW, Audi or Volvo one fits so am on the big search to find one to compare. May as well just change it as most likely works now but a few more teeth and it will be rattling. Going to do the rear main oil seal at the same time as thats at the same spot. the extra bits
9. well definately not the world cup.... it's not a sport.. sport is meant to be played by sportsmen or sportswomen which would infer sportsmenlike behaviour. However the last 3 world crud I have witnessed has been people pretending to be tripped over to get free kicks which was bad enough ie the best actors win. This year has been a celebration of cheating...... we had the invisible goal and another hand of god incident and there was no embarrassment, they jumped in front of the camera and said "look I cheated and got away with it". May as well watch reruns of the Benny Hill show. I suppose I had hoped this year it was finally going to be cleaned up as they always threaten. So I'll sit here and read my parts manual in complete contentment
10. :noyay::banghead: flywheel damaged...... more stuff to find
11. G'Day everyone will be drooling over the Matilda's when you start rebuilding. yes you should take more photos as: - for us - for you as makes it easier to put things back together if you have a photo of before you disassembled it
12. just to show I was in the thick of it  lucky someone else takes photos or nobody would believe me pity coveralls always make me look fat......
13. some more details... Lifting the cab off (yes a bit of overkill but the excavator was handy ) gearbox out engine out front diff flying through the air aircon out

16. Taking the front end out of my spare 6x6 today so hopefully no-one will get injured. They had to make another set of stands and they were told by their boss (my mate) "you will be under the truck, so make them strong enough"! Need to get new seals from Austria for our diffs.......... So should have some piccies later today :-). Tomorrow is going to be a fairly major attack on the 6x6 to get the parts out I am utilising or moving to my 4x4.

I have liked the look of them since I saw one in the uk 2 years back. NKR has some of the coms bodies, if you dont want to fix the canvas http://www.nkrecovery.co.uk/vehicles.html
18.:banana::yay:belated best wishes........ we Aussies are a bit slow sometimes
19. Well no-one killed today and heaps more ball joints split today. Lots of work getting done: - pulled the front diff out of my mates so we can tidy it up. The piccies below give some idea on size of the bits - having bought a 3rd one for the last parts the idea was to drive mine around and incorporate the pieces as I go. But seems a lot of the pieces are going to require a lot of thought and finesse to fit. So looks like mine is going back into pieces again this month . Saturday is the big push to get all the parts out of the donor truck.
20. I am fairly certain one of the guys on the Lightweight forum has one or we have a big thread on it so should be helpful. Sent some piccies of commandos in a Lightweight with the same numberplate location
21. Tailgate is fairly normal, which is good as can be a pain to find when you want one. The wiper motor cover is very rare. I see the steering cover is missing, what about the under bonnet tool box and wheel arch. Those wing boxes, I only see them on the navy or marine variants...... just my observation as not as common as other boxes.
22. thats a really nice or should I say interesting example. Winterised is quite rare. I rebuilt one in the UK 2 years ago and drove it accross Australia. Seems odd the numberplate on the RHS, may have been done in service, maybe not. The lower tailgate hole is for the numberplate light as that hinge thing is so the number plate hangs down, whilst the tailgate is open. (never really used as plate was normally on LHS) http://www.land-rover-lightweight.co.uk/Winterised.html also http://lightweightlandroverclub.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1599&p=12528&hilit=winterised#p12528 Do you have the manuals, as I still got in softcopy I love Lightweights,,,,, great Land Rovers
23. Well an interesting read and poses some interesting thoughts as appears she was a fervent and suicidial Nazi supporter but wasn't locked up or sanctioned. http://greyfalcon.us/Hanna%20Reitsch.htm very interesting read Then she uttered the words that for so long kept her out of the history books: "Many Germans feel guilty about the war. But they don't explain the real guilt we share - that we lost."
24. Hanna Reitch , another interesting topic.... what ever happened to her? I would be on Wikipedia but am dashing off to work.
25. yep something new everyday.... but I guess all my training was on American equipment so Sikorsky is credited throughout as the inventor of the helicopter. He also invented the helicopter seatbelt. This design revelation came about in his backyard testing a prototype which started bouncing. Sikorksky was thrown up into the rotor blades and smacked through the back fence . We used to have heaps of his old prototype films
