  1. http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/nazi-era-hats-found-in-german-school/story-e6frfku0-1226120045721 I wonder if will end up in a museum or a collector
  2. You forgot: - those that don't like the smell of a freshly opened tin of green paint - those with an adversion to oil leaks - those who like heaters that work and seats that are comfortable - those who think pto means please turn over
  3. Damn good postal service, in the UK and very cheap. Sending things overseas gets very expensive but nothing is perfect. Anyway, G'Day will see what your project is going to be, hopefully a Royal Mail Jeep.
  4. yep 6 and 1 spare is demoralizing enough...... Mind you look on the bright side imagine the look on the MOT guys face when you took for inspection
  5. a potential motor home http://www.thecompulsiveliar.com/revealing-tractors.html
  6. That about sums up all history, especially taught history as it is normally 'simplified' so that it is easier to learn but for every event there is typically multiple reasons behind it and even more conspiracies. One other issue I think was a lot of funds were pumped into Germany and Japan as communism was seen to be the bigger threat at the end of the war. As far as I know Russia never repaid lend lease I guess the biggest disgrace is that when the allies were executing war criminals, the US was hiring them. The German secret police was set up again as they had the best knowledge on spying on the Russians, so when it was set up they recruited their old buddies. One of these was Barbie. One of the people on the space programs went to trial years later as he run a research facility using slave labour. When this came out US immigration policy was belatedly changed and anyone travelling to the states has to answer a question on the card "were you a former member of the Nazi party". So yep a can of worms
  7. I believe in Australia the returned service institutions were run by WWI and WWII vetrerans and they had the attitude that any other war was not worthy. Attitudes have changed a lot in these type of institutions but it was something I recalled was occuring. As you said, any one thats served their country in peace keeping or a conflict deserves recognition
  8. It would be curious to know if the RSL's and institutions in the UK were same like in Australia in that directly after this was their attitude was it was not a war, as war was not officially declared or some such legal wording (escape clause). There were several conflicts that were not recognised by the RSL's for a long time and the excuses, again at the time were, trivial. Vietnam was completely snubbed for decades and pretty sure also the Malayan confrontation also.
  9. I never found it thus far in Malaysia, but internet infomation in Malaysia is fairly dodgy. Funny enough there is a huge music store around that address, I;ll have to go for a drive. I never thought about looking at Singapore as that is something interesting as Singapore did not exist as a country back then. A lot of the bases are still in the exact same places
  10. of interest, receipts with revenue stamps are typically quite valuable as were not something people collect and threw away. Same old story, thrown away and now people want them.
  11. G'Day...... Welding distortion should not occur if done properly and welded in a sequence. As Robin was saying MIG is one of the better options as has less heat input. TIG is the ultimate best on thin plate but slow and costly. Stick or SMAW (US), MMAW (UK) has a much higher input so the precautions for preventing distortion would be a lot more, but is dificult. The weld is like a cast, as it solidifies it shrinks, so you weld in stitches of short lengths around the patch, never long runs. Also depending upon the curvature of the plate you may finish stitch welding too opposite sides instead of all four. Gas is also good but it's a dying art.
  12. yes nice stuff I seen one Scammel in a museum over here. I wonder how many were left here.
  13. Often when we send Pinz to UK there is a big space at the end and I keep telling the dealer to chuck one of these in http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?16349-Asia-Motors-Jeep&highlight=km410 I nearly bought one for myself but cannot register them here (but can register a six wheeled Pinz, go figure). Body is supposedly a drect copy of the Jeep as built under license and the later model Rocsta running gear fits underneath as the Rocsta was a later derivitive
  14. I only mentioned the hook on type as would not alter the vehicle, but at this point not sure what the purpose is of yet
  15. For what purpose? Is it for ease of entry for the less athletic and or elderly? My Pinzgauer's are quite high off the ground and they have a step underneath but serious off roaders remove them to prevent them getting smashed. What they do to replace the step, is make one that hooks onto the lower door frame and pull it up into the cab with a piece of rope once in the vehicle.
  16. I meant a real toy as in childrens toy, not our current toys, or dolls :-D http://listverse.com/2007/12/15/top-10-most-expensive-toys/ I want number 8 :cool2:
  17. I had never heard of Corten steel, so had me curious but it seems to be more of an architectural steel and promotes a oxidised surface for sculptures. COR-TEN from what I been reading is going to be a real problem with welding and more so that it will cause anything attached to it to corrode so material welded to and any bolts that pass through it. I hope it isnt that steel. Best of luck
  18. did the UK operate Volvo's at some point?
  19. 800 quid Makes me wonder, what is the most expensive military toy
  20. G'Day & Welcome Miss my Lightweight, great Land Rovers
  21. She could kill Nazis with her bare hands: Nancy 'the White Mouse' Wake has died http://www.news.com.au/national/nancy-wake-the-white-mouse-has-died/story-e6frfkvr-1226110714515 and pictures http://www.news.com.au/gallery-fn78rwin-1226110718590
  22. Just saw on BBC breaking news that Nancy Wake is dead at 98 RIP....... a hero http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-14441032
  23. Another restoration project thread to suscribe to..... The other problem with liquid metal is that it is a bugger to sand back as I did that years ago as a kid. In areas you want to check the welds for pinholes you can: 1. You could use a penetrant test which should be in kit form. http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?16151-Ndt 2. You can do the same thing with a bit of diesel on the inside on a wet rag, let it sit and see if you get wet spots on the other side. Preferably better if there is a fine layer of dust on the outside Best of luck
