Hi, I believe the law doesn't require you to have a certificate as proof. The proof is the stampings of the Birmingham proof house on the deact reciever etc. But most coppers won't know much about the law and like bits of paper to show them. Doug

Hi, I've been collecting Bayonets for a few years and found some good reference books you might be interested in. By far the best one for British Bayonet I've found history is by Graham Priest's " Spirit of the Pike". Its still in the shops. Hi, there are several good books, depending which bayonets you want to collect. kiesling has just been republished and is a very good book, so is Janson's " notebook on Bayonets". If your interested in British bayonets "spirit of the pike" by graham priest is excellent. I've quite a few others in my library.. Hi, Not sure I'm going to be much help. The kit I bought from worthing canvas UK, consisted of Tilt; 2 side panels, 2 doors and 2 hinges.It doesn't sound like the same as yours. Anyway...It might be of help to you so, here goes: I replaced tilt with the new canvas.flats around bow and clipped together. Loosely fit tighten straps ( canvas was tight at first. Side panels attach to top and back to the tilt eyelets/ turnbuckles. The side panel has a pocket on the front . Open it up a little and push over the Bow support to hold it in place. Door hinges are 2 L shaped round bar brackets threaded at the end for a bolt & wingnut Line the door up to the tilt at the top - leave clearance to open- mark and drill hole through the windscreen support. Fit the doors....push top flats between windscreen and frame and fasten inside. Bottom flat has eyelet which fits over lower hinge and held on by wingnut. tighten up straps lovely and warm for the winter.... Although you might want to soak the canvas and let it dry... i didn't and hit the first rain and it leaked... But it soes stop! eventually. Still a nice bit of kit tho. Doug

Hi, The RLC Museum holds the Army B Vehicle History cards previously held by the Museum of Army Transport. Trilux lights are tritium filled ( radioactive hydrogen) phosphor coated glass tubes. They are filled under pressure and cannot be refilled. The quantities in the tube are very small and would have decayed to 25% of the original strength by now anyway. It would not give you much of a radioactive dose if broken, but obviously better to keep the tube intact as the radioactive part is the gas inside. Ventillation will disperse any gas if it were to break. The type of radiation the gas emits is absorbed by the coating inside so its safe to hold the glass. A lot of fire exit signs were made using these type of tubes and contained a lot more gas and these can be disposed of to a dustbin when finished with. by the way a gieger counter would be useful in this case I remember filling thousands of them up 25yrs ago. And I DON'T glow green !:-)

Can anyone help me source some brake shoes and springs for my sankey trailer? The brakes are rod actuated and the only info i have is from the data plate which gives the vehicle number as 23FL98 chassis No 2343. I was told they were rear series 2 landrover shoes. They are identical in profile but i found they were too wide to fit the trailer drums. Any ideas? thanks, Doug

Hi guys. Just looked at the 2 tins I've got . one is embossed " petroleum spirit highly inflamable" on the top and "Valor J U" on the bottom .Paint a bit of a mess so might find more markings when i strip it. Any Idea of the date? The other is embossed " LIGHT SHALE OIL" on the top and READS LIVERPOOL in a circle around 2-42 on the base. Paint looked as though it was originally white, but also had black and green overpainted. Any idea what this was used for?:nut: Doug

I've recently bought a jeep and currently doing it up as a representation of 5th Wiltshires in northern europe. I don't belong to any reenactment group, but I'd like to dress the part when I take it to shows etc. So now the silly question. Is it acceptable to wear British army Officer uniform to go with it or would that be frowned upon?

I think there are two events: "The little Vintage show" in May ( pics are of the show) and the MVT event in June . So the entry form is for the may event.

Bl***dy hell, its a shame when you get that sort of experience, especially when you've taken so much trouble to get there for their event. And if committee really believed the marshal, to suggest you driving on the road is really stupid. I'm new to this and am looking forward to meeting you guys at these events and feeling welcome. I'm painting my jeep to represent a british jeep in mickey mouse camoflage, (probably the wiltshire regiment). So just in case, should I keep a pair of ears in the the back?:cheesy:
