alan turner (RIP) replied to ArtistsRifles's topic in Military Scale Models
apart from the Scorpion and harrier set all thos are ex JB moulds and you get 2x105light gun and long and short barrells(L119 USMC). simple kits but worth their money. -

this is the mock up to the twin 6pdr AA gun from RAWHS. I have also worked on some 16mm film of this firing over recent weeks

What sort of Artillery piece is this?
alan turner (RIP) replied to Adam Elsdon's topic in Artillery & Anti-Tank Weapons
fingers in lugholes was standard practise before ear plug or defenders became part of the standard issue uniform. Haven't you noticed how many old gunners wear hearing aids and really bad old gunners have missing digits. My great great grandad was at Sebastapol in 1854 came back unscathed only to be blinded by an accidental flash back at shoeburynes, went on to have at least 18 kids (rumours were 22 pregnacies) so it didnt affect anything else, GG grany died worn out 1890 something, he was 85 when he passed on in 1917. -

Ah green Mace the mighty dinosaur of the 40's/50s images attached. 4.5" barrell water cooled breech, anti whip rod, twin auto loading chambers about 90rpm in short bursts, firing buttons by AEC (Same as london bus bell buttons). Back looked like thunderbird 2 because of chambers. Met a bloke when I was working there had fired the damned thing ( from a distance) the guys from back of house were overjoyed to pick his brain. A visiting officer from shoebury later told me that film existed of it firing, three spent ejecting from chute and one from barrel in single view. Traced to RCS Shrivenham and copy obtained.

crocs shot of his RL in boggyground reminded me of this one from the RAWHS collection in the AEC Millitant mk3 RV set -
Jack it looks like a bofors 40mm L70/32 which according to the little Ian Allan book of Artillery 1964 was still in Military use with the british army. Radar and Genny both towed by pigs, or 1601.

Ah the oil could have been from either the Centurion or Conqueror that went over the bridge as well. David Fletcher feels that it is theirs in its original colours.

Dougy it will probably be cheaper for a 50cal as there were loads more made and about compared to a GPMG.

I believe that the BARVS are shown being built at ROF Barnbow Leeds although the one shown appears to have no number chalked on it and may be in mild steel so is it the 13th built. There are others in the collection but are colour negs and I cant get good results on them. Both David Fletcher and Simon Dunstan have seen the collection and are amazed, they have never seen any of them before. PM explains source of images

heres a few more Centurion barv views to go with those in the water tank, looks peculisar whenyou think that 6o tons of the tank are below the surface and that you just have the boat top on view and no apparent leaks

the 50cal on the 432 was not a civvie lash up these shots were taken in1989 on salisbury plain, there are also similar shots of an M548 supply truck in the set. Probably only to test out their effects but they are military views. These are the sort of Gems that are in the RAWHS collection. so if you fit your kit out like it there is photographic proof.

I took a mate of mine up to Duxford for a look around some years back and we had a great time watching the guys repairing their Hurricane until he asked how much of it is original, well its one of those that the chap couldnt really answer. but I said to my mate really the only time an aeroplane or vehicle is original is when it rolls off the producion line under its own power, everything on it is new. Now this mate had a much loved Ford Capri 1600 Lazer and he spent large amounts of money on it to keep it pristine. So I asked him what was original on his car , he admitted that it had had new wings, gearbox, clutch wheels, brake, tyres, battery, all fluids changed loads of petrol lights etc, so he was a bit disgruntled when I asked him if he still thought his was original. he replied that it was. Just like triggers broom 10 new handles and six new heads. Anything else that happens to it becomes part of its history rightly or wrongly. Another mate used to complain that in war films they didnt use the correct opposing piece whether tank, plane or vehicle and he would moan no end having not enjoyed the film. he couldnt understand artistic license of if you cant get the proper piece use whatever you can get hold of to represent it.
