  1. and a few more.................................... Rob.......................rnixartillery.
  2. Your Welcome George,If you are ever up in Gods country let me know and you are very welcome to inspect it at close quarters ! Rob....................rnixartillery.
  3. There are no indications between the original 18 pdr MKIV P and its later conversion 18/25 PDR in the photo anyway, only the time and the place the picture was taken which makes a Big difference. Before I answered Lex with the type of gun I should have asked about the location,it was an after thought about it being Dunkirk. An 18 pdr projectile has an 83mm Diameter as to the 25 pdr round being 87mm (3.45") so not much difference there ! George is quite right the limber used with the 18 pdr was the No 29 which was upgraded for mechanised transport,I do have one of these in my collection. Rob........................rnixartillery.
  4. 704 18 pdr conversions and 214 standard 18 pdr's were left at Dunkirk not all MK IV P'S were re-chambered for 25 pdr rounds. The Mk IV P Guns were built as 18 pdr's and later converted when the need for a more potent round was required. The no 27 limber's at the time must have been fitted with ammunition trays from the No 24 Limber as the standard 27 tray does not accept the fixed 18 pdr round but both trays have the same external dimesions ! 5. Here are a couple of nice photo's from my archive clearly taken post 1937 as it is pictured with the No 27 limber and not the No 24. Note the No5 night Illumination box fitted to the side of the trail, this was later fitted to the 25 pdr on the rear of the Shield in front of the Gun Layer. Rob.....................rnixartillery.
  6. After the evacuation of Dunkirk the 18 pdr was made pretty much obsolete because of the large numbers lost, along with several types of vehicles ,the dragon to name one ! Rob....................rnixartillery.
  7. Yes ,they are 18 pdr MK IV P, The arrangement between the hubs is a combination of suspension and Traverse, very complicated.I dont think the idea progressed after the MK IV.There is also a MKII gun in the first picture which would have had the Martin Parry wheel conversion fitted. It looks like salvage from Dunkirk, has the picture been taken in France ? Rob.....................rnixartillery.
  8. Well I think he will probably have a ride up when he's back from his Hols to have a look, He doesn't know about this one ! The gun is live in my FAC. The gun is now complete so needs restoring but it is another Historic Artillery piece saved from whatever................. Rob........................rnixartillery.
  9. Job Done ....................... Just needs a lick of paint ! Rob.................rnixartillery.
  10. I think the reason for the increase in the re-enactment side of the hobby is down to cost,it is not cheap anymore to pick up an old wreck and restore it especially with the incease in value for War time vehicles, shortage has also pushed the cost up. Buying a uniform and some webbing and throwing it in the back of the car is a damn site cheaper than running a vehicle but there are those that do both ! Unfortunately over the past 25 years I have been on the MV scene the best years have gone in my view, there are less people now restoring than there was in the late eighties and nineties. 11. "germans told me if they would dress up in a ss uniform he would get shot in his country. i told him to get over it, the war was something of our grand dads" Try telling that to the Jewish community ! rnixartillery..................................................
  12. Mid Bronze Gloss Green with plenty of chrome ! Have fun with it ! Rob...................rnixartillery.
  13. These pictures are taken from 'LIFE' magazine, the guns are 4.5" Howitzers some on 9.00/16's and others on the Martin Parry conversion. Rob.................rnixartillery.
  14. Well that makes two of us ! Rob..................rnixartillery.
  15. Not any more Simon,I chopped them off yesterday along with any other "Foreign" add on's. Its back to original now. I am hoping to have a gun on it this time next week but we will have to see ! Eddy,is the telescopic sight no 29 or no 41 ? Rob..................rnixartillery
  16. Here's an odd thing, the Reg number on the makers plate is 2012 ! Rob..............rnixartillery.
  17. Had a trip down to Peterborough today and bought this back ! seems to be a good month for 25 pdr's as I have picked two up.................. I dont know why :nut: I must be mad . I have the rest of it but it hasn't arrived yet but I was thinking about building a complete 25 pdr gun battery. Pics for the interested. Rob................rnixartillery.
  18. I finally got some bits back from the sandblasters the other day but not enough to keep the job going, the saddle is primed and on temporarily. When I was down at W&P's I managed to meet up with Marc Van Aalderen for the first time which was a pleasure and we had a little trade and I came away with a 17 pdr Striker for the pheasant so thats another piece of the puzzle sourced. Thanks Marc ! Rob...................rnixartillery.
  19. Well Adrian I think you have hit the nail on the head ! Just pulled an old Sherman manual out and there it is. I was assuming it was post war because of its condition. Is anyone looking for a Sherman Block ! Rob.............rnixartillery.
  20. Interesting Adrian ! it does have a number stamped on the back just under the FMA I will check it but I think it is prefixed with the letter D. The Block is NOS and has never been used.it is surplus to requirements ! Rob...............rnixartillery.
  21. Thanks Tim, I have a feeling it could be a Yank Block ! Rob....................rnixartillery.
  22. I picked up this Breech Block and need some one who can positively ID it ! It is a 76mm block and I believe post WWII. Rob...................rnixartillery.
  23. We were only there Tues afternoon and Wednesday but I spent up so thought it was best to head home as I always find more bits and dont have the money to buy ! :undecided: Rob...................rnixartillery.
