  2. Hello Ken, Thanks for the offer. I will let her know, but yes, it looks like it would be too far out, but you never know.:-D
  3. Gary, thats an awsome looking truck you have there. If only we could buy trucks like that over here, let alone at the prices you pay!!! These things happen. It's a shame that the tyre blew as it has plenty of meat on the tread. The truck looks like new, wish I owned one. Whats the MPG on that rig with the auto box fitted? Same or more than the A2? Look forward to seeing some more pictures on it. Cheers Andy
  4. This is very shocking news.... Please pass on my sincere condolences to his family for their loss.
  5. This is a great little Air Show at Dalton Barracks, the old RAF Abingdon Airfield. They have a 3hr air display in the afternoon and have lots of static exhibits. The Army attend with modern vehicles from Dalton Barracks and it's all for charity (Air Ambulance) so there is a £5 entry fee for each vehicle, driver and one passenger. Come along and support this good cause. Get your vehicle exhibit form from here; http://www.abingdonfayre.com/contacts.php
  6. This is a good show, mainly steam, tractors and Commercials. They had a small contingent of Military Vehicles last year but I'm hoping more members from here will attend this year to increase our presence. So come on, lets see some more members of HMVF attend this one. Located about Three Miles West of the M3/A34 Junction towards Eastleigh. Eastleigh Vintage Machinery Preservation Society Bill Targett Memorial Rally. 21-22 May 2011 SAE to; John Taylor-Cram 7 Hart Plain Avenue, Cowplain, Waterlooville, Hants. PO8 8RP Tel: 02392 250463
  7. I will be attending again this year in the Bedford. Printed off the entry form and will post asap. See you there.
  8. It would be a brave man that took that on.

    fuel

It's £132.9 a litre for diesel here. There is going to be a time in the not too distant future when people are not going to be able to afford to get to work. EVERYTHING is going up but wages stay the same. Most companies don't even pay overtime rates anymore. It costs me £240 a month in diesel just to get to work. I'm looking at buying a motorbike as the one I'm looking at does 65mpg, then it's cheaper servicing, cheaper road tax at £70, cheaper MOT, but insurance the same as my Hilux. I put £20+ more PER TANK in my Hilux than I did back in 2005 when i got it. Now that's inflation!!!!!
  10. My back silencer needs replacing. It started rattling the other day and when I got underneath to have a look I noticed that where the pipe meets the back of the silencer there is a crack half way through. I'm not happy as I only replaced it a few years ago. It's supposed to be a Stainless system, but only the box is, not the piping. Will order one tomorrow.
  11. Yeah, funny that. We seem to moan about anything, lol. I don't complain about my brakes. They are only sharp for the first few applications and then settle down, but they are still very good brakes even when warm. As mine weighs 7.9 tonnes without the 12x12, poles, bench seats, tables and missus I'm glad they are good!!
  12. The father of a friend of my other half was a driver of a Diamond T Tank Transporter in the Army. It's his 80th birthday in April and what she really wants for his birthday present is for him to either get a trip in or drive a Diamond T again. Apparently he is a collector of classic cars, so he similar to us in his interest for historical vehicles. The gentleman lives in Guildford and she is willing to travel to where the Diamond T is based. I'm sure she would be willing to pay for the fuel! Are there any Diamond T owners that would be willing to give this Veteran a drive or trip in their Diamond T for his 80th birthday in April? If you think you can help, please PM me and I can pass your details onto the Daughter of the Veteran for her to contact you. Thanks in advance for any help offered. Andy
  13. Happy New Year to everyone. 2010 was a nightmare for me, but did end on a brighter note. I hope 2011 is much better. Happy New Year.:dancinggirls:
  14. Neil, PM sent. Let me know when you have looked at what they have to offer? All the best Andy
  15. Hello mate, I own a Bedford MJ and I was also in the Army and I can honestly say I've never driven a Bedford that doesn't try to throw you out of the cab at the first application of the brakes! The brakes will always grab on a Bedford, that's just the way they are. The best way to overcome it is for some braking at low speeds. I bought my truck two months after it had been through ABRO, where it had new brake linings, wheel bearings, new brake fluid and brake wheel cylinders, so they are as good as they will ever be, but they still grab when cold. The reason they are grabbing a few hours after you have shut her down is purely because it's so cold. When I drive mine they are lethal on the first few applications and I try to only just breath on them to start with. They are fine after that. It does help having a heavy box on the back of mine. Is yours a Cargo or Flat bed? Also have you checked the setting of the Load Sensing Valve? By the way. I am using 99.9% Methanol in my brake antifreeze system. You have to be carefull when buying this as some Methanol products contain water. I go to a chemical factory and buy 99.9% pure Methanol that has no water content. Expensive though. Here are my tips. Fire up truck and blow the air out of the system using the foot brake a few times so any moisture has been expelled and the valves are working OK. Drive truck slowly and keep applying the brakes until she no longer tries to kill you. Get some weight on it. Drive, drive, drive!!!:-D
  16. Glad you got it working again mate. Obviously not a self bleed pump then.
  17. That's what I thought. I told him I've never heard of the problem he was talking about. I will ask him as I've forgotten. :-D
  18. I was looking for a farm to store my truck and Land Rover. My old boss owns 12 acres near me and keeps horses, a horse box, tractor and numerous other stuff in a barn on her land. She said she has been raided about 5 times (by people that travel in caravans and make a living stealing stuff that doesn't belong to them) . I decided then that unless I could find VERY secure storage, I'm better off leaving them outside in public view.
  19. Sorry to hear about your bad news Neil. Are you able to do Cyber security risk assessing? I'm able to give you a link to my companies jobs page by PM if your interested to see if there is anything on there you might be interested in? Andy
  20. My MJ has the good old fuel cold start device. But I've never had to use it, as the engine starts at the mear hint of being turned over. I might go out today and fire her up. She has sat outside in for a month in these minus temps. Richard, On a seperate note, did you ever have Bedford 330 engines with a pushrod problem on number 3 cylinder? A fitter at work mentioned this, but I've never heard of it?
  21. Hello Abi, A very warm welcome from me to the forum. It's unusual to see women into the hobby in a primary role, it's usually the wives and girlfriends that get dragged along for the ride...:-) So a big welcome, hope you have a great Christmas and New Year. PS - Lots of pictures are a requirment of the hobby...
  22. At last, some decent snow!!!:dancinggirls: It started snowing here about 08:30 yesterday morning and was pretty heavy for a few hours. We must have about 6 inches of snow here. I cleaned the snow off the Surf last night to go into town to get some xmas presents and it took ages to clear all the snow. Looking at the nearest official weather station data (RAF Benson - 5 miles away) the tempreature dropped to minus -14 deg C last night. The patio door frame is white with frost and the towl we have to help stop the draft has frozen to the frame.
  23. Blimey, that was a stroke of luck!!!
  24. Now that is picture postcard. Don't get a puncture, you wont be able to remove your wheels unless you have a jack hammer:-\
  25. I live in Didcot and as everyone would know, this town has been well known for it's role in the Railways. There is a branch line that runs from Didcot to Newbury, part of the Newbury to Southampton Railway. The first part of the line from Didcot Junction is now a local road and cycle/footpath. But as you exit Didcot towards Blewbury the line regains it's original makeup apart from the tracks. Past Blewbury the line is the same now as it was in service apart from the tracks. As it approaches Compton, there is a skip company. They use the rail cutting that runs through the farm the company is based on as a landfill. They dump all the rubbish from the skips into this cutting. Now there is a group that is campaigning to re-open this branch line to passenger and freight traffic. I can't see how they would be able to do this as the cutting is being filled in, but the farmer must obviously have permission to use the old rail bed for this purpose. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Didcot,_Newbury_and_Southampton_Railway
