They look like Tornado F3 drop tanks.

Laid on settee this morning at 6.15, and heard the usual whine of jet engines. I thought to myself that it's a bit early for the Typhoons to be messing around, when I got outside I saw 6 F15 Eagles and a KC135 tanker at fairly high level heading I presume for Lakenheath.

Thanks chaps, I did have an inkling that it might be Chieftain, but not 100% sure.

I've got some odd bits in the shed with an NSN that start with 9 AHY, just want to know what what they are for.

Can anyone tell me which vehicle the DMC code 9 AHY relates to? Cheers Simon

Is it definately dead? I presume you've checked the electrical feed to it. It may just be stuck, give it a tap with a soft headed hammer, that sometimes loosens the workings. Depending on the type of horn, you may be able to take it to bits and clean it up.

Just wondering if anyone is going to the Bedfordshire show this next weekend 14th - 16th September. I'm hoping to go on the Saturday, weather permitting. Simon

Been a bit slow of late on the Martian front, been doing a bit more on the Matador, going to a few shows, and also generally rubbish weather. But I've been out the last two days and pottered with a few things. Have rebuilt a hydraulic filter with new element, and affixed it to the hydraulic tank head, reassembled the hand throttle unit and made up a new floor panel to replace one that broke. Parts from the old filter, though new nuts and rubber washers are being used. New element. Tightening it all up evenly. Fixed to the tank head. Next job. After finally finding where I had put all the parts to the hand throttle unit, and getting new nuts and washers, assembly commenced with a few glances at the ISP to get it lined up correctly. Doesn't look too bad, only got one small bit to touch up where I dropped it! Lastly I made up a new floor piece, as I broke the corner when trying to remove the cam locks for cleaning. Various tools were used to make it. Measuring up with a bit of old scrap ply. Cut out with handsaw and jigsaw. Holes drilled using flat blade and cone cutter. Had to work the grey cells hard to figure the best way to mark out the cutouts for the where the ring pulls sit. I put the hole saw in my pillar drill, and taped the saw to get the correct depth. Because I didn't want the centre bit to bite too far I moved it right up out the way. Good old hammer and wood chisel were the tools to remove the unwanted material from the cutout. The edges were smoothed off with a dremel type tool and rotary sander. The old and the new. Good enough for me.

Got the paperwork thing from the air festival website, didn't know it had been damaged. Spit displaying on Friday as far as I can tell was the AB910. Dusk air pics haven't come out too bad. Spitfire 11 low flypast. Brendan O'Brien's flying circus. The SWIP duo. Heard when we got back to our campsite someone had found a WW2 shell on the beach, no wonder they wanted us all to depart quickly when the show finished.

It was a very good show, I went on the Friday and the seafront was heaving! Had trouble finding a spot on the beach to sit. The flying programme changed daily, and it was a shame the Sea Vixen was grounded due to paperwork, as I haven't seen that flying yet. Lanc was a late performer due to a technical fault, but the whole show is worth going to see. The dusk displays were extremely good, with the last perfomers having pyrotechnics as part of the display, will put up pics when I get them transferred over.

I've always undone them and then just sat them back over the holes, that way gas can escape, and foreign oblects can't fall in.

I'll second that motion too, Marcus' engine blue goes on very well, aerosol or the 1 ltr brushable pot. Not quite the same shade for B series I don't think, but looks good all the same.

I was looking around these when the Vulcan flew over. WOT 1 looks very nice, and probably quite rare. Simon

Went on the Sunday for a wander around. Not a bad turn out of green things, and a lot of other vehicles too. Including flyovers by the Red Arrows, a Spitfire and the Vulcan, had a very good day. Unusual vehicle type. Haulomatic dump truck. Scammell Crusader. An assortment of Jeeps. Bedford RL's. Jimmy's. Quad and Limber. Daimler armoured car and Dingo. Dodge Weapons Carrier. Reo? Volvo Laplander? BSA. Mk1 Milly. Mack wrecker. Lastly, a Chevrolet something or other, in UN markings. There were a lot of vehicles that didn't turn up, but there was enough to look at anyway.

I have got a weeks holiday booked in Dorset, so I can attend this, and have also since discovered that the Bournemouth air festival is on at the same time :-D:-D:-D Hoping to get to GDSF Wednesday and maybe Saturday. Have found some reduced rate entry coupons too. Will have to come and introduce myself Clive. Simon

Also had boxes with packed by Remploy and Barpak, but whoever packed them, they sure didn't skimp on materials. Does feel strange opening them up just for a nosey, as they nearly always have a label stating not to be opened until required for use.

I decided to attempt to open a box that I've had in the shed for a couple of months, just to see what exactly it contained. Starting with a heavily waxed box, which once originally had an outer covering of brown paper, I went through quite a few layers before revealing the final article. Talk about made to last, packed in 1954, would probably never have seen the light of day again! First job was to cut along the seams. Opened up, just like pass the parcel! Found the box, still a way to go.... Looks like it was packed yesterday. Getting closer..... Final layer to come off. Et voila, the end, a No1 Mk1 switchboard baseplate. I make that 6 layers of protection, certainly made to last, wonder if things are packed like that nowadays. Simon

As far as I know the carbs are the same size, as both B60 and B80/1 use Solex 40 NNIP, had a look in Pat Wares book In National Service.

I would guess B80 uses same type as B81 - Solex 40 NNIP. Mine looks like this... I think they are also used on the B60, so I reckon that is for a J60, as the whole carb is a different shape.

Does anyone know which particular vehicle these will fit. My guess is for something armoured, but don't know which. Cheers Simon
