  1. autohome stopped their mutiple vehicle policy a few years ago...not found anyone who has replaced it
  2. that's very interesting, shows they are not as tough as you think...and perhaps the torque of the diesel engine is too much for the axles which were designed for a petrol engine...
  3. yes but this truck does maybe 1000 miles a year...the auto would be a long time before it was over used or worn out...assuming minimum 1,000,000 kms, the 350 bhp over 220 is a real bonus too...would make the drive just that much easier and I cannot see it being that big a job...just too much for my team at the moment..
  4. cannot beat my foden, a solid reliable but now rusty trusted truck that starts first time if the batteries are good and runs beautifully now the clutch is new and the flywheel sorted...needs a few gators replacing soon and will need a new set of tyres all round as these are now getting old and cracked...will go all metric and save a lot of hassle... could do with a lighter clutch though...oh for an automatic gearbox...
  5. Tony, good idea, I have certainly got the business head. But I am full of ideas too...and I have always fulfilled my fantasies...no matter how wild...but I have a long way to go yet... Paul
  6. so in line with the plans I am looking for people interested in helping me run the museum trust. I think I will likely need around 4-5 additional people to help me get things going. Is anyone interested...I have likely one member interested but looking for more... the ideal candidates are those with knowledge of a few of these, era, the machines, the army, the government etc etc, or maybe has a passion for the cold war itself, or has loads of money and wants to invest it into a great cause...or has machines that he wants to store and show in the museum that are applicable, or he has a lot of time on his hands and wants to be part of something new and exciting... its not going to be easy but i hope you can all see my determination is undying, I have been planning it for many years, i have my ideas but now its time to get it going....I am on the road...i have the land I have policy and I think I can get some form of planning and maybe even temporary buildings in place...we could be running proper next year... PM me all you millionaire ex army engineers...
  7. yes I would be open to any cash/funding, however I would prefer to get the museum trust team together first to make sure all money invested is handled properly and fairly. This museum is my passion but I know many many of you also have similar passions. I am hoping that in the next five years I will be retired and investing all my spare cash and time into the museum...i hope to attract lottery funding at some stage...but who knows...fund raising is a game in itself...
  8. Yes I have been very quite sorry everyone, but very busy. I have a new planning adviser and he has already uncovered some marvellous information. So we had a good look through planning regs and we have a policy in our favour. Under policy number s16, or something like that Museum applications have to be supported in principle. So I have decided to wait a bit longer and apply for the full museum application. This means the underground bunker and everything else associated with that. How I fund it will be tough but hopefully I can build it in three phases, phase 1 is the lower floor with basic access, this will allow some vehicles and some material to be put inside, I will include in the plans a 12,000 square foot barn for the rest of the museum items. it will be 2 story so around 24,000 square feet. (the hope being that even though temporary in the future it will stay as more space for offices and museum staff and stuff like that. Phase 2/3 will be the remaining 2 floors of the bunker and the final re-covering of it so that it is underground. The underground bunker will be a total of 5 floors, 2 deep in the bed rock (chalk) each floor of just 3000 square feet, then the main floors each of 20,000 square feet. That's around 1 million pounds worth of concrete. plus rebar and labour. so I need a few bob to do this. It may take a while if I cannot get any investors involved or if I have to sell my business or I have to use profits from my business and take a whopping great loan. Its all doable, and I am looking for serious investors and/or people who want to be part of the museum and help me build it. This is going to be a life long project. And I think the cold war is still in progress...so I will need even more material going forward...wonder if a 36,000 square foot bunker is big enough. I have loads of plans but for now i will keep those secret as it will spoil the opening event and the first visitors. it may be a while yet but if I can get the barn up before the end of this year then we will partially open next year. here's hoping.. anyone interested in buying shares...may try crowd funding...begging on the street seems profitable...?? I am very excited by it all...
  9. clutch and box going back in again after son put the clutch lever the wrong side..oops...good job all the same though...
  10. interesting and now we have no truck manufacturing in the UK...how the UK has been left behind...
  11. this foden is the bees knees, am a true foden fan, ultra reliable and no fancy sensors or air connections to keep going wrong, pulls with her n/a eagle engine anything, not quickly when loaded but she keeps going. my only change to this girl would be to fit the 350 eagle with auto box, that would make her a dream to run...but to be honest its a n event driving her with the gearchanges. it makes the whole drive that bit more interesting. and yes my daf is forever having air leaks. i hope to buy a wreck daf one daf and fit the engine and box and see how that makes her go...but as with all these things I am one man on his own and until i get the museum set up with proper workshops I am beating a dead horse...
  12. clutch out and off to be redone, it was the flyswheel plate wharped and twisted, getting new one cut and fitted and having the plates done too so she should be a really happy bunny now with the selectro screwed on properly new clutch and flywheel surfaces all flat she should get full power at all speeds and loads...cab needs welding though...
  13. that is a manitou, not a mankini...the foden clutch is on its way out now gone so its a bit of weekend work ..typical it is needed this week...will have to get GS 2 oiut, but she doesnt have the mega winch on her...so she isnt as useful for moving things although the ramps are a bit longer and a ton heavier so they work better when loading the JS130...
  14. SO I had the good fortune to buy the Foden GS from Mark some time ago, she has done little until this year when we have used her for hay collections and deliveries, for moving my manitou telehandler about and now she is moving my 13 ton digger too. A very reliable and healthy truck, with good grunt even if she has the heaviest clutch I have ever used... one day i would love to fit a full 350 with automatic gearbox, that would be a pleasure of a truck to drive.. now where do i get one from...
  15. Hi guys does anyone know where I might get foden GS parts from...i need a new ignition barrel, not the end of the world but i would prefer a key to start it rather than a button...
  16. 1. sensors will be able to detect that easily, and without much help they can use run flat tyres to get to somewhere safe and then the people can change cars..easy peasey.. 2. sat nav is so advanced these days they pose no problems at all, they would ask the passenger to open the gate. 3. radar can easily determine the depth of a ford... 4. maybe but definitely only the pretty ones... 5. Ultimately what is the point in a driverless car safer transportation and manageable risk...currently individual driving standards vary enormously from the very competent to the dangerous, and even the very competent can have a moment when they are distracted...the drivers less car will never be distracted will never change its ability will never be compromised by events around it...or should not be...so the world will be safer and you will be able to get from a-b quicker and with much less fuss and be able to work all the time you are being transported...boring as hell and no fun whatsoever but hey ho...this is progress...
  17. sadly I think the answer is yes, some condescending politician will tell us its best for us and take away any opportunity to travel freely at our own risk...what an exciting world we have ahead of us...roll on teleportation...beam me up scotty... i already own a teleport....
  18. I remember those days too, but I think this is not really the future it is the now, autonomous cars are here, and its only a matter of time before the laws change to make them useable beyond trials, we have the technology, this is nothing new or special its just more of what we already have...even robots are coming, personal assistants, hmm make mine blond and with very long legs...the future is now...we are the lucky ones we have done the big V8's and the freedom to motor where we like when we like, and use petrol and diesel in our cars at very low prices...not sure that freedom is going to be possible for the ever expanding population in the future... I am now just thinking I will buy myself my last monster petrol car, something silly and crazy because I suspect in a few years you wont be able to...its just what to get...I keep wanting to go for something like a ferret or a saracen, or a CVRT, but I already have these, guess I will look at something like an R8 or a Gallardo, or a Vantage etc etc...who knows...will have to see....
  19. there is no way to stop this, how I see it is that we will no longer own our own cars we will just book journeys. Cars will reside in local areas, side streets parking lots charging themselves up ready to go anywhere they are asked to go. the process is just automation. they can see what is ahead behind above and under themselves, they can do this in fog rain snow any sort of weather, extreme sunlight is tricky so it seems for tesla's. However that will all be resolved, they will be centrally monitored and I suspect we will see competing companies running the cars. because the cars will be used for travelling from a-b they will not need to be mega monsters like an Audi Q7 or Range Rover etc...i suspect we will still have luxury models but they will be of a different size. Because of the ability of computers to act so much faster than humans we will be able to travel at greater speeds and all closer together than currently, even maybe having cars attach themselves to other cars heading to the same or similar location...roads will be less congested and safer, there will still be accidents there has to be, things happen that cannot be accounted for but the computer will always react quicker than we can and then its just physics...i also forsee that along with such matters work places will become local, with less reliance on central offices and more reliance on communication devices, ultra fast internet and comms links. we will see our old cars slowly disappear until they are not allowed on the road at all. we will have to have them all in my cold war museum....he he...
  20. The B60's were not a bad engine for power.....when you think of when it was built and its a side valve engine. i am sure I read somewhere though that they are pigs to modify, you cannot skim the heads to increase compression or shim the head to lower compression due to the valve arrangement, you cannot increase the revs without major balancing work as the rods come through the block at about 4,000 plus RPM, and injection will not really add much in the way of power.... if you desperately needed more power I would junk the air filter and fit a paper one, up jet the carbs a tad, but I doubt they need much, and then fit nitrous oxide or throw it all away and fit a modern engine with a modern gearbox and see how that goes...bet it would not be that difficult...B60's are not small engines and a 3 litre BMW 6 cylinder with 300 plus BHP could be made to fit easily...thats more than double the B60 output...you could even fit an auto box to whatever your thinking too...that would be a lot of fun to try... are you doing this in a Ferret. they fly along...
  21. tis very true...we are all running our AFV's on solar power, I love that thought...
  22. Agree proper AFV's just put my deposit down on the second Zoe...mars red...or burgundy to most of us...
