  1. thanks Guys the input is brilliant...so much to do...
  2. guys, brilliant, thank you for your input, I feel the name is about to be changed again...I cant have the British Cold war Museum as its too descriptive, they the Americans could not have the The cold war museum today because its too descriptive and limiting, but in 2007 they could..... but I like the Museum of the Cold War. what do you think and also Nuclear Armageddon, a history of why it never happened...i have posted the names on the facebook page to see if I can get feedback...your input is vital and immensely informative and helpful...
  3. yes its an interesting point from you, i need to be aware of how people see it...
  4. yes I think i understand what you mean but in america the word nuclear holocaust was used all the time...and it is from that era that much of the cold war stems...I really wanted it to be as far away as possible and because this is the phrase that was used it fitted nicely....the word itself is not for the sole use of one group of people and it should not be......so I sort of feel duty bound to use it as it was then....
  5. thanks for all the support letters guys, more needed if you can find the time to drop a note to me it would be brilliant. I have now changed the name as an American company has trademarked the name The Cold War Museum. I am totally stunned that someone would trademark the name and the law today would no longer allow such a name to be so trademarked but it is and so I have to change the name... the new name is The Nuclear Holocaust museum, a history of the cold war period... send to paul.obrien@thecoldwarmuseum.com
  6. ah just found him in Adverts,...thanks Wally...
  7. Hi guys anyone know where I can get a fuel tank and exhaust pipe, inside the engine bay, from manifold to the box.....also where i can get injectors for the K60' there may be some other parts likd shut off solenoid etc but only just started working on it...will lift the pack and see what else she needs...
  8. a new 432 has hit our shores...it has been used by the fire suppression company for testing fire extinguishers in the military vehicles, is a bit black with smoke but no fire damage...looks like new tracks and road wheels and with a quick spruce up will likely be going up for sale, we have a 432 and not sure a second one is of any use at this time...
  9. thanks guys every letter helps...
  10. thanks Paul...the world is a small place...
  11. crikey that did not generate a lot of interest.?
  12. Hi Guys, I have a thread in the museums section but if many of you are like me I rarely look in there. I am about to apply for the museum planning permission for the first phase of the museum, canvas marquee type things then phase 2 underground bunker 1 then phase 3 bunker 2... I am wondering if your good selves could help me with a supporting letter just stating that you think its a great idea and that you would visit the museum once opened...and anything else you might want to add about the period would be very interesting too... I am also looking for memorabilia from the era, 1946 to 1990, anything that is from that era is of interest household items, military items photos stories, especially of times in BAOR etc etc...whatever you have...unless you donate it to the museum everything will remain your property and you will be able to have it back at any time... if you can send information and letters to paul.obrien@thecoldwarmusuem.com thanks for all the support so far...
  13. Tony Brilliant letter...you have hit the nail on the head, the Cold war was not just about the military and the land garbs made by RUssia and the US...it has influenced our lives in more ways than most people can imagine...when people come to the museum they will find all about its influence...in almost all our lives...keep the letters coming guys they are brilliant and very helpful... and please do not forget if you have any memorabilia from the era, old photos of the berlin wall, checkpoint charlie old items from a bygone era that you no longer want or would like us to look after for you in the museum...all goods can remain your ownership if you wish or be donated to the museum...whatever you like...i am particularly after BAOR stories...etc etc...
  14. no data will go on line. Especially personal data. But thank you all the same...
  15. Guys thank you so far...i have had a handful of supporting emails...these are brilliant, if you could add in your name and address this would be marvellous. the councils are so sceptical they would likely accuse me of writing the letters myself. Not my way at all. Anyway thanks so far, if anyone else can be persuaded to write letters of support that would be great thank you./.. send to paul.obrien@thecoldwarmuseum.com
  16. thanks for those who have made contact so far...if you are interested in sending me a letter of support you can email it to paul.obrien@thecoldwarmuseum.com any letters of support will be gratefully welcome and will be used as part of the planning application. i will erase names and address for that purpose but if you let me know you are happy for me to keep your name and address on the letter then that is fine. it will ONLY be used for the planning application.
  17. John yes we did that and they are loosely supportive as long as I can justify it they will come with me. they have basically given me the green light. they are not against it. it is very very exciting at last we could be seeing my past 30 years of ambition coming to fruition...but i have to say its crazy that anything i the UK can take a lifetime to achieve...in the US i would be open next week, in the UK it takes 30 years...no wonder the world has left us behind...
  18. Email letters addressed to the Cold War museum stating your interest and support. Would be perfect.
  19. Hi Andy, yes know it very well. Cosford of course, is not a dedicated Cold War museum. It only focuses on the Air side of the Cold War and is mostly interested in the British view. My Cold War museum will address the whole scenario including the US the European, the German, the eastern European annexed territories, the wars started by the principles of the Cold War that were not the Cold War, etc etc etc. And whilst the Vulcan the valiant the victor all played their part, the Cold War was more than just a few intercepts by Lightning’s and phantoms of Tu 95 bears. I totally love Cosford though. Fantastic museum. I hope to be able to loan stuff from such high laces in the future.
  20. okay excellent preliminary news. I have a lot of work to do, there is a surprise, but in reality I think if I complete all the work and do it to the right standard, the council/planning department will likely support my application. as the planning officer said it is not particularly easy and whilst I have some policy on board some is against me so i need good justification. The task is on If anyone considers themselves to be experts on the cold war I would like to hear from them. I need to ask people to write me letters of support. The further and wider they come from the better. The museum needs to be built this year and I am pushing really hard, I have a lot of reports to have done and am working very hard to get all the ducks in a row so that i can open towards the middle of the year. Phase 1 will be under three rather large aircraft hanger, marquee type buildings which will eventually be replaced with a partially submerged 3 story building followed by the phase 2 which will be the fully underground bunker part. Phase 3 will be silo number 2. Year 1 we will have the trucks and tanks we have now...British, Russian, German, American and European stuff...etc. loads of engines to display and guns and bombs and other historical stuff from the period. we are building a museum of all the publications about the cold war, as much as we can get...its a long steady process...but priority is getting the thing open and getting vehicles worked on as soon as possible under cover. Year 2 will see expansion of the military equipment to include more iconic Cold war vehicles. We are hoping at this time to include some aircraft types including Tornado, Harrier and Jaguar. All items yet to be sorted but that is the plan. year 3 we will see the potential installation of our target aircraft, the aim being to have them with running engines for display purposes......I am on the trawl for a number of other machines. The hanger building will be installed again underground. year 4 the maritime services are to be represented in the cold war museum...some maritime guns and other paraphernalia. Anyone who has a vehicle, a memento, an item of history, a picture a anything that represents the period and they would not mind it being displayed in the museum, I am very keen to hear from you.
  21. good luck with the build, she will be very perky with that engine. i have read all sorts of horror stories about their unreliability, they were said to be the worst vehicle the army ever bought...not sure about that but I read about transfer boxes breaking and all sorts of gearbox issues... i hope it goes well once built but i suspect you wont get much more than 25-30 mph out of her...mind you that might be the best anyway, they are stable enough at low speeds but at higher speeds she would likely be very scary... I have always loved these vehicles...
  22. okay the pre planning application is going on for the 12th December, lets see how it goes. Paul
  23. they seem to be supporting me so far...but I don't trust them one bit...
  24. The truck seems too young to be for a mobile radar as early radars were fixed arrays, and the mast looks like it is holding a platform for maybe the mounting of a camera. The body seems like it is coach built for the purpose which makes me think BBC...does the mast look like it can go up and down...which would point to BBC unlikely to be radar but it could have been a small domed radar type, used for early fire control or aircraft location systems...
