  1. I didn't think the MoD had 2.2 diesel Series 3s, only 2.25 petrol?
  2. The Stallion IS a Ferret. It's a much modified Ferret hull, wheel stations etc. They were designed in Jordan.... http://www.kaddb.com/public/home.aspx look under projects.
  3. I had a look at them today, I think there were 4 or 5. 3 were painted pink, one was green and another was blue with EUFOR on the side. They are civvie spec TD5 hard tops with loads of kit in the back. One even had a laptop still connected!

DPM stands for disruptive pattern material, green and black paint is not DPM, even if it is in a disruptive pattern... :stop::cool2:
  5. Here's an interesting one for you... http://www.mod-sales.com/direct/vehicle/home/23070/Landrover.htm
  6. Bidding on items in MoD tender sales from the USA is a very VERY bad idea! You definitley need to view what you are bidding on. People have been badly caught out in this country doing this, never mind from several thousand miles away! AFVs sold through tender are rarely in running condition, they always have flat batteries, often the engine is missing etc. If you win the bid, you have 7 days to pay. They do not take credit cards. You then have 7 days to remove the item before they start charging you daily storage charges. Though this isn't really applicable right now since the MoD are not releasing any armour at the moment. This thread wasn't about how a vehicle is painted, although I agree that is important. I was more frustrated by the owners attempts to bolt any accessory they can find to the vehicle, even if the wrong period/era, rather than leave it standard. If you were restoring a Sherman you would need to decide how to paint it, but I'd hope you wouldn't install headlamps from a Challenger 2, Chieftain stowage bins, Clansman antanna bases and Bowman stickers etc!
  8. Clive, You can convert a Word page to a jpg by pressing the 'Print Screen' button (upper right of the keyboard above the number pad) and pasting it in to paint or whatever you use to edit images. Chris
  9. Randall, Not really in the Biz, just crazy enough to bid on things in MoD tender sales! The first one was going to be a project, but was sold to someone who started doing tank driving days. He was looking for a backup vehicle, so I bought another which was a non runner and got it going before selling it on. Certainly with the Mk 2 diesels mostly they were non runners due to electrical faults, bad earths or dodgy fuel solenoids etc. I have no idea what they go for in the USA, but $16000 probably sounds about right for one on your side of the pond, I imagine shipping one over would be quite costly. You have to ask why 'some hoses are off' and hope that it's nothing serious!
  10. They have about 16 gears, it takes them a long time to get up to speed though.

  12. A 432 is easy to maintain, you can lift the pack in 20 mins and everything you need to service is right there. The only problem is you need a crane! Wheels/tracks etc are no more hard work than any tracked vehicle, keep the nuts tight and eveything full of oil or grease. The 'dog bone' you mention is a jacking strut, there is one for the 432, but here's one at work on a CVRT. Chris
  13. Randall, Over in the US the petrol 432 (mk1) is more common than the diesel (mk2) as you have cheap petrol, and diesel is a little harder to get hold of. I've had a couple of Mk 2s and also driven a Mk 1 a few times. There is no real difference in the way they drive, but the petrol engine might need a bit more looking after than the diesel. The diesel pack is also easier to obtain should you need to do a pack change. The spares you need depend on how often you're going to drive it and on what terrain. Wheels and tracks are about, but you'd need to get them from the UK and shipping won't be cheap. Chris
  14. Torque 207lbs/ft (gross) 195lbs/ft (net) at 2000rpm. Not everything in life is related to the bhp output! The engine has to shift 4 tons at almost 60 mph. Ferrets might not be a Ferrari when it comes to acceleration, but they are not slow either, especially for a vehicle built in the 50s. However it does have 1950s vehicle brakes, you need to remember that you're stopping that weight at that speed using 4 fairly inefficient drum brakes. If you're thinking about an engine swap you need to consider the unique drive layout of the Ferret, with the single differential, H shaped transmission, epicyclic pre-select gearbox, hub reduction gears etc etc! It's not just a case of fitting something else into the engine bay. You really need to get this book before going any further: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ferret-Datafile-1_W0QQitemZ140332052448QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Collectables_Militaria_LE?hash=item20ac712fe0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1683%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 Chris

    What is This?

I have no idea how to wire it up! I suspect though that only 2 of the pins actually do anything. Most of these night sights have 3 or 4 pin plugs but the harness in the vehicle only has 2 wires. I had one, if I remember correctly it is Chieftain, but I sold it to someone who just wanted the image intensifiers. Chris

    What is This?

    Sight, Periscopic, Armoured Vehicle, L4A1?
  17. A Ferret wouldn't be a Ferret without one of these...
  18. There shouldn't be a delay, but it might be that your internet connection is a bit slow.
  19. Same again, do that without the / in the first image tag and it will be fine.
  20. This would have worked if you hadn't put the / there.. / closes the tag, so you need it in the second but not the first.
  21. Ok, try this type e.g.
  22. Technically you should be painting it with heat resisting enamel, but I've just used the semi gloss stuff in the past with good results. It always looks nice untill you fire the engine up, it leaks a bit of oil and then the fans blow the oil around the engine bay covering everything in a horrible dirty film!
