  1. Thanks for the reply, Do you have much information on this? Would be interested to see if this was a viable way to run a military vehicle? E.g. how much money saving is to be had? - If its 3 MPG now, what was he getting before?
  2. The Stolly, what's the tank for in the back?
  3. Thanks, maybe we can get this turned into a web page at the end of the day. A good point to note comes from You Tube: Edited: Above quote from You Tube is completely inaccurate. There are 28 surviving examples, but not all of them are "operational" - not sure where that guy got his numbers from. But I believe the current list to be nearly accurate. P.s. need picture of J.Littlefield Panther.
  4. Sorry, I am updating the list as I am going along Edit: One thing I have noticed is there is a large number of running Panthers. I have also added photo's to give people some chance of ID-ing them from the you tube videos.
  5. Some amazing pictures you have there, don't suppose you have any of the leopards?

  7. Welcome Welcome, You will fit in great here, Jack and rest of the admin/moderation team are amazing.
  8. I think that may be one of the, if not the most expensive vehicle in the Museums collection. I am taking the Sherman shots into the Museum, the guy who you have taken loads of pictures of will love it.
  9. Right here we are Big Al, sorry I was away the past three days. Note: These are Big Al's photos not mine , all credit to him. Thanks, FB Edited: Added some more Photo's of me driving Leopard. These also aren't my own photos.
  10. Big Al, maybe you got some better pictures? Any chance of uploading them.
  11. From the perspective of which is nicer to drive. I can say by far the M113 is by far nicer to drive. The drop down ramps of the M113 make for a nice display for shows etc... I doubt you would find a M113 for sale. Also there is another major point, the 432 is full of lumps on the top of it, the M113 is a great deal less-cluttered on the top, making walking along the top of the vehicle in low-light conditions a great deal easier.
  12. Regarding the A7V the gun also "fired" at the front. It was amazing to see inside really empty and only half of it had flooring, you just had to hope you didn't trip.
  13. I was working the weekend, but managed to snap a sum total of 3 pictures. I have uploaded them and here they are: Those are just a few of the exhibits and displays, the A7V was amazing, managed to talk with a few of the gentlemen that helped Bob build it. It was built from Marine Ply, coated in resin (you would have thought it was metal). My drive went off without a hitch in Leopard. We even had the opportunity on the Saturday afternoon to show people inside. People are amazed how cramped the interior of a MBT is, even though the Leopard is more spacious than Cheiftain. The Tiger was amazing, and the Stug which had only been unveiled on the Friday performed amazingly. Another amazing restoration from the SDKFZ foundation. The Tank Museum is well worth a visit, especially with the summer events that they run. Details of tanks in action displays can be found on the museums website: http://www.tankmuseum.org/ Please add your photos, P.s. Jack I saw you and your GMC but you where busy talking at the time
  14. Just seen it off-loaded down at Bovington, it looked spot-on. Things are shaping up down their for a great weekend!
  15. When it went over the second time with the two guys in Orange survival suites on the side, I hope those guys where on big money!
  16. Bob Grundy is building an A7V from two of those tracked laying - "Tractors" It is going to be shown at tank fest Bovington - this weekend.
  17. Leopard and Scorpion are my favourite vehicles. Scorpion - amazing bit of kit, amazing sound and very responsive on the sticks. Leopard - amazing bit of kit, amazing sound amazing handling for a tank!
  18. But this years tank fest amazing, they have a massive collection of German armour with a whole load of Leopards! and the A7V!
  19. You seem to have to do a great deal for your H-Tests. The H-Tests conducted around us simply involved people driving up and down a private road with the instructor on the road watching them. They conduct the test using a M548 that has been modified by having the cab-removed providing cracking visibility. - I have never seen anyone do anything with reversing around a corner. I also heard a rumour that you where able to take a H-license test in a mini digger, that would be easy!
  20. Hello Lauren, we where shown around Duxford by the head of the land based stuff... Amazing day out, you have a great set-up over there, with some amazing kit. It was mid-week so no one was around, but there was a T-Tank outside in the process of having its tracks and suspension removed. Thanks snapper, its always a problem finding spare time. Thanks Shakey, very true! Fruitbat
  21. Have passed this link around (alot) and everyone I showed was amazed at the work that went into restoring the Sherman, I believe my best bits of your posts was the posts concerning the engine. Cannot wait to see what you can do with you final project.
  22. Thanks, and yes the Pearson's you guys drove the Matilda 2 and the Crusader at Tank Fest? Big Al? UN ferret Alan? Thanks for the welcome 6x6, I was lucky to have summers free to help with the displays, and as the displays have been increased (or where last year) too 1 per day... it was a great opportunity. I love the maintenance more than the driving to be honest.
  23. Hey guys, found these forums a few days ago. Very impressive, I worked at the Tank Museum Workshops over the past 2 summers, and have been a volunteer there over the past 4 years. I have worked on a variety of different vehicles, and have driven the following: * M113 * M548 * Saracen * Saladin * Ferret * Sherman * Leopard 1 * Scorpion * Sherman M4A2 * Cougar * Morris Armoured Car * Marman Herrington * Saxon * FV 432 * FV 434 * Tracked Rapier * M16 * Fox * Willys Jeep * Snow Cat * Linx * Centaur * Calf Dozer * Wheel Barrow (H License required). I am sure that a lot of you have been to the tank museum. Possibly for a Tank Fest or one of the summer events, and if you haven't its worth a visit. If you are interested you could also consider joining the Tank Museum Friends, they do a lot of volunteer work with the museum. Just wondered if they was anyone else here from the workshops, seems a logical place for people to come talk... Thanks, Fruitbat (* Nickname* )
