  1. we've got an opportunity to do a wedding with the spartan, i'm thinking how to price it. my wife says its £250 for a rolls royce, surely a greedy CVRT should be more than that. its only 12miles from home then another 12 miles to church and of course i can earn £100 on a saturday with regular work best regards mick
  2. I think fundamentally Duxford is a good museum, I can definitely see what people are saying though. At the MV show a few weekends ago I was talking to a chap in the workshops and he said the museum is receiving a great deal less funding at the moment, in part due to the 2012 Olympics. What a shame!
  3. Hi Alan, welcome to the forum. We're not too far up the A1 from you, at Sandy. Regards
  4. When will Shuttleworth wake up? They've got the base for a fantastic military vehicle show there. With its geographical location and all those acres they could lay on a fantastic show, but of course they'd need the co-operation of us owners. I'd certainly attend if it was the same format as all the other shows, in that us private owners either enter for nothing or for a very small admin fee. Let's not lose sight of the fact that we are 'the show'. Shuttleworth has got a nice cross section of material but they've only got a very very small selection of MVs, certainly not enough to support an MV show. I've always thought we could do some fantastic showpieces there combining MVs with their aircraft in set piece scenarios. Regards, Mick Garner
  5. Hey Monty, Yes we were surprised too! It snapped the welds clean around where the hexagonal piece seats into the female hex on the vehicle. It'd most likely been repaired badly at some point in its life, I highly doubt my dad can do that sort of damage Regards
  6. That is a fantastic piece of work, real devotion all the way through :-)
  7. Somehow Dad managed to snap the head off of our Ferret starting handle :nut:
  8. A complete shot in the dark, the transmission covers are bolted in place?
  9. Hey chaps, Dad and I should be there, sand and green Ferret Mk1 :-)
  10. Cripes, someone obviously has a LOT of free time :nut:
  11. Somewhere I have a picture of a Rover V8 someone built from Meccano
  12. I certainly hope so, dad and I were really impressed. Being only 3 miles down the road at Sandy it wasn't too much of a trip either. I shall follow up with more pictures shortly. Regards
  13. The correct Ferret tyres are getting seriously rare these days, same story with Stolly tyres :-(
  14. Hi Chris, I'd say probably not, dad likes a good night's sleep! The costs of transporting it and possibly the Ferret there wouldn't really be feasible but of course we will go as visitors, hopefully we'll see you all there. At least that means our vehicle will stay in one piece when it's out of Vince's reach Regards, Lewis
  15. To report back after some tinkering with the carb. She's now running a lot better after 20 minutes of adjusting the mixture screws. One of them was screwed almost right in, the other was a little too far out. That done, obviously it ran much more smoothly than before but still the idle was too low. Found the idle screw round the back (a fiddly one on the Spartan) and managed to turn the idle up. Runs sweet as a nut now. Thanks and regards, Lewis
  16. Hi chaps, thanks so much. As you say Chris of course wait till the engine is warm before turning any screws. Even after warming it up for a few minutes and taking it up and down the track a few times, it still won't idle. The pickup from idle is rocky too even when warm, so obviously something is amiss. Thanks to Vince too, that is a BIG help. I had a vague idea of where everything was but obviously you don't want to go adjusting any screws when you're not 100% sure what they are. Hopefully a little adjustment, and then we can take her out on the road for the first time. Thanks again, Lewis
  17. Hey Spanter, nice to meet you. We were the chaps with the Ferret. Regards
  18. Hi Vince, well it says Marcus on the top of the carb body. As dad said, Terry Brooks' Scorpion was so easy to drive in comparison to ours. Plenty of power, you could easily start off in 3rd gear (a no no in ours), take your foot off the throttle at junctions, the clutch disengages and you just select whatever gear you like to start off again. With ours it just isn't quite there, as dad said he'd feel a lot more confident taking ours on the road if it ran better, if you could tell us the location of the idle screw I'd appreciate that, as it needs turning up a little. If you feather your foot on the throttle it idles okay, take your foot completely off and it stops. That's the main problem at the moment, getting into forward and reverse, and having to select 1st gear whilst also keeping your foot feathered on the throttle. We've got an engine to collect from Marcus Glenn soon so if push comes to shove we'll just swap the carbs over. Regards, Lewis
  19. Hi all, I'd appreciate it if anyone could come up with a carb diagram/drawing for the J60 carburettor. Ours still isn't running quite right so we've decided to have a look at it again, does anyone have instructions for where the mixture screws should be set? Any information is appreciated. Regards, Lewis.
  20. Hi Chris, we'll have a good look around, thanks for the lead. I'll head over to GMS now and see what I can find. Regards, Lewis
  21. Hi Chris, thanks for that, I shall do so. The track is still together at the mo, we've been given a track pin by Andy to use as a drift, that's about it! Presumably 'there is a nack' means 'it's a right pain in the backside'? Regards, Lewis
  22. That's a good point Clive, we shall ask if we come up with nothing. It's sod's law, Dad was up at Marcus's place only this week! He's taking his test with Terry Brooks on Monday so you never know, he might have one. Regards, Lewis
  23. Hi all, Does anyone have the tool needed to pull the tracks together? If we could beg or borrow, or even if anyone knows where we could buy the tool, we would greatly appreciate it. Dad was at Andy Baker's today and unfortunately he couldn't find one. Thanks and regards, Lewis
