  1. Three uparmoured Challengers on the A303 on civilian transporters near Illminster heading South. An uparmoured Viking on a transporter on the M5 heading South. Are the Cornish revolting again?
  2. it looks like an M38A1 from the 1950's. Not worth very much money, but how much is 50,000 PHP in US$? I have Winston Churchill's Suzuki moped in a shed. I wonder what the going rate for that would be?
  3. Well, there would be lots of good old chaps smoking pipes, drinking Camp coffee, eating McConechy's, knitting headgear while reclining on cushions sent from home. Anything else just wont be realistic.
  4. Ahhh. I love this thread. A pity a lot of the pictures have gone though. A lot of names have dropped off as well. Was it really nearly five years ago that i strated this one? How time has flown by. Somebody must have some evidence now to disprove my theory that the British Army never hung buckets from tow hooks unless they were trying to make a new and special friend.
  5. I cant think of any survivors. Restoring one as a wrecker would be good though. handy as well.
  6. I quite agree with you there Roy. If a spring braking on a Dennis would always result in a smashed sump then something would have been written about it for sure.
  7. I have never seen a picture of a four gallon petrol tin in WW1. has anybody got any pictures? Was the WW2 "Flimsy" a four gallon can?
  8. I have seen some of the photos used by Baxter at the IWM collection. Probably my favourite was of a Peerless with a very substantial wooden jib in the back. It seems that photos of the recovery trucks are very rare so i would suggest that not many were used. If you look at the movie clip of WW1 trucks in Images of a forgotten war you will see that most of the British trucks that are recovered are done so by having soldiers push them out. The US Liberty trucks had substantial wooden bumpers front and back and it seems that these were regularly used to push out stuck trucks. Tim
  9. The USAF are pulling out of Fairford in a few Months. They are having a heritage day to commemorate the history of the base which includes memorabilia of the bases history and visiting aircraft (no idea what). The event runs from 12:00 to 15:00. if anybody is interested (and local) let me know and i will give you more info. Tim
  10. Yes, lots of luck involved in this game. Not much has been happening recently as there have been other pressing matters that suck up time like a sponge. However, normal services will be resumed as soon as possible. In the meantime, do you remember these two grotty headlamps: Not quite so grotty any more. We just need the brackets to hang them on now.

  12. Father has had an interesting day. A chap from Leighton Buzzard spotted a Claudel carburettor on a stand whilst at a show at Silverstone. He told a friend in Woburn Sands who told Steve in Leicester. Steve then rang the stand holder in Harrogate who agreed to bring the carb to Beaulieu in Hampshire. Dad then drove up from Axminster to pick it up. Good grapevine in this hobby! Anyway, this is what he has come back with. The stand owner actually had two carbs so Dad bought them both. One is a stripped body, a 28mm sized model A and the other is a complete 32mm version. The drawing says '28 A' so we now have enough bits to put one together. A fair bit of work will be required but that should be straightforward enough and we are another step closer to running.

  14. Actually, i am not too sure about that sausage roll either. Three minutes in a microwave would ruin it i think. Didnt see much vehicle restoration at the museum. do they actually have a workshop there? There is a transport museum near me and all i hear about is infighting and disagreements between the people who work there. It sounds like a smaller version of the British Commercial Vehicle Museum. A shame, but that is human nature i suppose.
  15. Interesting, but a bit sad. I felt great deal of sympathy for the museum director. Doing anything with other people can be a pain in the neck sometimes. I cant imagine that sort of thing happening amongst like minded military vehicle collectors - oh hang on a moment, hmmm.
  16. That sounds like it will be fun. Take plenty of spare oil, water, petrol, tools and bungees. Also, we have always found that a few blocks of wood are useful additions to the tool kit. What day will you be at the Curragh?

  19. Yes, the Peerless does look good. Interesting to see the Linbin drip tray is overflowing. I didnt recognise the Rolls Royce for a moment. What work are they doing to that? What event is happeneing next Month then?
  20. Thats a great adventure Tom. The sort of issues that we encounter every time we go out, although perhaps not all at the same time. Anyway, i am delighted that you had such a good time and thrilled for you to win such a prize. No stopping you now then? What event are you going to do next? Tim
  21. Well, thats a missed opportunity there. This is what Steve has been talking about. As you can see, the axle is very close to the sump indeed. It would be a great shame to smash it now, after all these years so a bit of adjustment is required. We will probably have to put a new dimple in the top leaf to locate the clamp plate. Care will be needed as working with unclamped springs can be a bit exciting.
  22. Spark pluds are all fine. I cant find any cracks in the manifolds. The U Joints are quite well greased, but i will have another look at them. While looking at the exhaust i found a tiny pin hole in the weld where the flexi pipe joins the tube. As i ran the engine i could feel a little draught coming out of that. I have just packed the hole with Holts gungum and will then take it for a test drive later on. I hope that was the cause of the problem, but it only made the popping sound when i reached about 30 to 40 mph and stopped when i eased off. All good fun.

  24. One heck of a turn out. Looks like a brilliant show. Interested to see the landy in the Berlin urban camouflage. I have only seen that on MBT's before. Certainly looks a bit different. Very eye catching.
  25. Great photos. So how was the ride in the Crossley then Tom? 50 MPH the whole way there?
