  1. Once the treads fill with sticky mud you are driving on slicks
  2. At least they are joining something, a few will get the bug or finance and move to bigger things.
  3. Welcome. Your English is better than my Italian would be, so do not worry about it.
  4. Makes sense to keep the weight down when the Stolly goes swimming
  5. If it had been perfect to start with, There would have been nothing to improve, If the people have the confidence to go again next year I have no doubt it will be better. If people gave up on their restoration the first time something broke or a hand got in the way of a hammer, we would not have a show. There is probably a faceless burocrat somewhere who came up with the numbers, or a contractor who did not supply on the day/week what was asked for. It does sound as if the people and the vehicles were worth going to see though. For people like me who cannot afford to travel that far, even though there was a degree of difficulty for those who went, selfishly are there any more pictures.
  6. Did the show have any redeeming features?
  7. That has the wow factor. I still find it amazing that someone who had never seen a Merlin engine got 10% more power out of it by looking at drawings and measurements. Then came Mrs Shilling.
  8. In N/Yorks. Black close coupled 4 axle rigid on low loader with TARMAC accross the tail board. Possibly Sentinal. Just below Angle of the North South Bound, on the side of the road Poss W/Jeep and trailer. I was heading in the opposite direction. With a poorly Audi on the trailer.
  9. Welcome. Just looking to see if they have sunk any more inverted mushrooms of Blyth. 2 down 3 to go
  10. A very interesting potted history with photographs.
  11. A Conductress Ducks for short in Newcastle and if they had to change over or the catynery came off the line, they were out the back lightening quick with their pole and away you went again.
  12. I used to get a lot of work done by Swift Brake and Clutch on the end of Scotswood Road in Newcastle, Phone no.0191-2734273. I also used to use Advanced Motor Supplies, on Gateshead Salt Meadows Road.
  13. Have I missed the thread? I have not seen a show report or any pictures. I could not get to show.
  14. Idealy a serial no or squadron information. Otherwise an eagle eyed officionardo.
  15. As things progresses there were also aircraft staging through Africa from America hopping from the Azors and Accention Island. Some heading for Iran and onward to their destination in Russia. I had a friend now sadly deceased who spent the whole war in East Africa and Iraq. He was an air frame rigger fitter.
  16. I think one route was Freetown another from Gambia Aug/Sept 1940. HMS Argus transported 30 Hurricanes with their wings detached from Liverpool to Takoradi in West Africa. Hurricane range approx 460 miles extending to 1090 with two 44 gallon ferry tanks. In the same convoy was HMS Furious, loaded with 55 aircraft some crated Hurricanes of 73 squadron she did another trip with 40 in December 1940. Their destination was the Western Desert to fly combat missions until they re equipped with Spitfires in June 1941.
  17. Everything is facinating and make up the big picture
  18. Massive lectra haul dump trucks along with Terex and others, Oshkosh are all into electric power but they all have their own on board generating plants. Some very large mines have an overhead power supply that the trapeze can hook up to. We may well live to see buried electric rail in the road on limited routes. I can remember when Newcastle Corperation did away with the Trolly buses and introduced the latest thing in City Transport (Leyland Atlantians) with a big fanfare. Ports like Singapore are well along the route of autonimous driverless vehicles for moving containers. A rope operated electric front shovel is still the most efficient machine for loading dump trucks size for size compaired to a diesel hydraulic excavator in the large slow moving face senareo.
