  1. I've used Parcel2go and my hermes with no issues to send Brens in the past.

    DO 17 raising

I was at Cosford on a course the other week and some of the guys in the article were in the hangar (At that desk) doing some work on small parts. It mainly involved chipping off the dissolved ally parts to reveal the steel parts preserved inside, unfortunately the ally shell was obviously once a component part. I didn't realise the one of the guys was the chairman as I asked him if I could go and take some measurements of the display .303 Browning. Its amazing what you can get away with in uniform, one security guy practically dragged me over the little barrier so I could get a good look at the BSA 350 on display.
  3. The MB in the MBEU is for Martin Baker ejection seats. I suspect its either a lifting sling or possibly a leg restraint line.
  4. drill rangefinder? I don't know why you would have one for drill purposes.
  5. First question, Are you intending to lock wire all 6 bolts in one or 3 lots of 2? Second, by hand or with lock wire pliers? Third, are the holes in the bolt all the way through the head or just through the corner? There is plenty to think about but the task is pretty easy. Watch this vid and see what is best for your job. I do it every day on ejection seats so it all seams easy to me but I can appreciate you want to get it right. Just remember not to anti lockwire, its very easy to spoil your job by forgetting to always imagine the wire pulling the bolt tight. Not knowing how big the bolts are, I don't know what guage of wire you need, but here is a link to that auction site. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313&_nkw=lock+wire&_sacat=0&_from=R40
  6. I attend every year and as mentioned above, it just gets better and better. One day I'll have my Enfield COs in a state where I can display them. I'm only about 400 meters from the show so I don't have any excuses.
  7. Quite appropriate, read the text. http://www.gunstar.co.uk/Deactivated-Rocket-Launchers/LAW-66-Law-66-gun-for-sale-gs155009.aspx
  8. Im a little confused. Is it the big water tank as in for fighting fires or the engine coolant/expansion tank? I'm guessing you mean the big tank, if so, is the water pump connected directly to the engine, i.e. a seal between the 2 has gone? Seems a bit stupid to do it that way. Could it not be coincidence? I really hope its not your cylinder head that's gone and its just coincidence that their is water leaking out of the big tank.
  9. Some of the late WW1 Vickers have smooth jackets but I know what you mean. Its the late 1930s and WW2 Lithgow made Smooth jacket Vickers which are cheaper. These are normally in very good FTRd condition just like the Lithgow Brens, they all came out of War Reserve in the 1980/90s.
  10. This dealer is a well known .......... merchant, £1200 for this Bren when I know that he paid less than £400 for it (Probably much less) http://www.(LINK DELETED BY ADMIN) He always appears to purchase lots of stock so he must be selling to some idiots, most of the stuff comes from one of the big dealers and he never quite describes it correctly, even when his errors are pointed out. One example is the L4A1 which has been mentioned on the forum before, it is in fact a South African 7.62 conversion, and he knows this, but he still hopes to sell it for a lot of money to some one who doesn't know better. He also has some .50 cals which came from Saracen exports and his L7A2 GPMG is a Ex Indian MAG with fake markings.
  11. Any chance of some photos of the Mk5 STEN? Last one I saw from the same dealer was a real piece of work, it didn't have the back end of the bolt fitted, it just had the cocking handle crudely welded in place. What Webley parts do you need?
  12. The major problem out there is that dealers (perhaps maybe not knowingly), are selling crap at premium prices. Not only that but some deactivations are absolute crap too. The Brens being sold by one large dealer have the worst deactivation job I've ever seen, unnecessary cuts and grinding. Most of the British GPMGs being sold out there are actually ex Indian guns and not British L7s, they've been marked to cover their origins. Some of the .50 cal M2s for sale have had their original markings removed and marked as Interarms manufacture and are crap, Lee Enfields made from lots of parts, not even the same models. Made up guns sold as experimental or rare models, and there are people out there who fall for it!! In my opinion, the best items on the market at the moment are coming from WWA, Rytons, Mike Priest and Saracen Exports.
  13. I'm just testing as I'm having the same issue And it works...blow me down!
  14. Now the restorations complete, what next? Carrier to be finished?
  15. We used to have CVRT scimitar and Spartan in the RAF for Regiment and EOD use so maybe we had light tanks prior to that.
  16. Check here from last year http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?35252-Browning-30-Cal-and-GPMG-turret-mounts
  17. The Germans loved using everyones guns, they pretty much gave designations to all foreign guns, even if they didn't capture them in large numbers. It appears they were fond of the SVT 40
  18. Did you manage to find a wheel? Is it a bare hub? I think Ted may have a spare spindle, he purchased from another guy I know, a project which included a WD/CO front hub, brake plate and spindle which I sold to him last year. The front spindle was made by me from high tensile steel so is more than adequate.
  19. The small parts/tool wallets are standard 303 wallets with an extra, darker material sewn inside, after all its not like the British Army to recycle things.
  20. Genuine photograph, I wasn't there but some of the guys I know were in the back, I think it was a photo shoot and it was taken from the back of an Italian transport plane. Theres some more somewhere, taken over palm island in the UAE. I've been through a few of these though
  21. Its a 1950s BSA Bantam D1 front wheel, see here http://www.owensmotorcycles.co.uk/spares-wheels-bsa-bantam-d1-front.html
  22. Looks like a trial Tornado GR1, and I notice Blackpool tower under the Jag. I'm thinking this is a photo of the BAe test flight.
  23. I thought at first it was in a field and then I realised it was flying. Very cool, I wonder if it was flting with the aircraft taking the photo.
