  1. I wouldn’t worry about publishing your frame number. I’ve never heard of any issues from posting it, unless I’ve missed something. I’ll check mine as it’s very close yours, I did own another WD/C that was 8 digits away from my first but decided to sell it as I just didn’t have the room and wanted the space for a GPW.
  2. That’s close to my bike I think. I’ll have to check.
  3. Oh and before you final assemble your forks, don’t forget the rubber stops.
  4. Those stays are the original carrier with the top cut off and the tubes flattened to bolt to the guard. It’s a relatively straight forward fix to make it correct if you would prefer the earlier look. whats your frame number? The frame has the earlier holes in the headstock that were prone to cracking. The fix was to leave a web in the hole (so no longer a hole) which stopped the problem (instead the weak point became lower down the front tube).
  5. There should be some spacers for the front seat bolt, I’ve seen them as part of the seat and some pushed into the mounting point on the frame. They are nearly always shagged and are simple to make on a lathe. the rear guard looks like it originally had a non pannier rack installed judging by the hole pattern. have a look at the holes at the rear to see if it had a number plate or WD lamp.
  6. Not sure how the fuel pump works on a Meteor but if it’s mechanical it may be worth checking all the seals to make sure that fuel isn’t leaking into the oil. If you get chance, I’d love to see photos of the work in progress.
  7. Unfortunately this is the only Typhoon version I’ll get to work on. It’s a beast but nothing like as exciting as a classic piston engine aircraft. I’d love to work on BBMF but alas, the days of needing Armourers on Spitfires, Hurricanes and the Lanc are long gone.
  8. That’s what my old colleague said. The merlins not an issue but the Napier is a whole other ball game. whos trying to rebuild one?
  9. Shame she won’t fly. my old colleague said they were close to getting a mossie a while back but it didn’t work out. I guess it may have been down to the construction and civil rules (even though they are military registered).
  10. The funny thing is that footage was filmed about 20 meters from my hangar and I never even saw it until it was parked outside for the local news.
  11. About 15 years ago I questioned (through official channels) the price of a small spring being £100. It was the spring for a Mauser cannon firing pin. When the response came back as being justified I couldn’t believe it. It’s the same size as a run of the mill biro spring! The reason: Air worthiness, batch control and packaging! What a joke. sorry I can’t help with the fasteners but I’ll keep my eyes open.
  12. Looks like there’s some friction parts missing from the steering damper. Did you just fit to have a quick look at how it will appear? I tend to do that!
  13. Love that sign on the barrier ‘STOP, Enemy close’
  14. Got it first time around. A Hawker Typhoon, brought in for the RAF 100 by BAe.
  15. Got to love this comment... “It drives very well and I've had it up to 70km/h on my driveway.” that is some driveway!!
  16. Oh, and let’s see if someone spots something unusual for BBMF!
  17. An old work colleague who is a Senior On BBMF let me and the family (And some other Families) have a wander around the hanger on the non public side of the fence. I’ve been stationed at Coningsby for 12 years and it’s the first time I’ve been in the hangar. As I left I took this parting shot. I hope it works.
  18. I watched an episode of car SOS and they got a pro to repair the tank (may have been the Volvo). I think he used a steam cleaner to purge the tank.
  19. The H84 could be to NATO standard that the US simply didn’t take up as they had the old 30 cal cans to use up.
  20. I wondered if the Aus could be Australia but thought it a long way for a cheap ammo can to be transported. i did buy some Ex Austrian M1A1 ammo cans for my 1917A1 at W&P a few years back and thought the markings were similar.
  21. Will the outer chain case still fit Ron? I wonder if the bigger 350 clutch will clear it?
  22. Just read that the M19 and M19a1 are for the .30 cal and developments of the M1 can. With the intro of the M60 to US service they continued to use the .30 cal cans but with 7.62mm. Does your green can have marking to suggest where it originated? It doesn’t have British markings. Could be Austrian (the word Aus appears) or Israeli (the n in circle is similar to a mark they use).
  23. Is the H84 bigger than the .30 cal cradle? I would expect the H84 to drop in but be loose. The .30 would have used the M1 ammo box which is much bigger due to the rounds being longer. I would suspect a GPMG Mount would have a cradle for a H84 https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-general-purpose-machine-gun-gpmg-turrett-mounted-on-a-royal-navy-ship-69827572.html
  24. I used to have some of those ammo boxes. Did the ferret have a .30 cal 1919A4/L3 because that would be a different (bigger) ammo box. I think the Brown ones are H84s and for 7.62mm belts but was used with other ammo such as .22rf.
