    I have been contacted by someone who is researching his grandfather's WW2 history. His grandfather was in the Reconnaissance Regiment and drove a Number Light Reconnaissance Car I believe that there is one in Somerset owned by Les Jackson, which he was hoping to take to the 75th anniversary of Operation Market Garden. I know that these vehicles are VERY rare, does anyone on this forum have Les's contact details or know of another Number LRC

    I have just received the MVT chairman's report from the Trustees of the MVT Management Committee (the new name for the Council of Management ). The backlog of Vehicle verifications has been cleared and a new person has put their name forward to take up the position of Vehicle verification officer, although this will not be confirmed until the AGM on the 5th of April. So hopefully verifications we re commence in April. I will keep you updated as soon as I am,informed.

    My civvy Leyland Sherpa had a 1.7 litre O series engine, earlier ones had 1.8 litre B series engines, I believe that there was a diesel B series option and even the Land Rover diesel in the 300 series.

    The 6 wheel Kugel that I found on the interweb is captioned as "6 wheeled Kubelwagon replica, movie prop" the rear end doesn't look anything like a Kubelwagen, a Hollywood fantasy?

    I ran an LPG powered Sherpa van for about 5 years, it we previously owned by West Yorkshire council who converted all their petrol engined vehicles to LPG to stop fuel theft. My only problem was the lack of LPG pumps in the wilds of North Yorkshire, this was finally solved when I had a hose made up to fill the van tank from our LPG heating tank!

    One of the problems with DVLA is that they seem to insist on having a NOVA (Notice of Vehicle Arrival) form before they will register a previously unregistered vehicle, even if the vehicle in question was built in this country and has never left this country. Would you be interested in bringing your carrier to Lacock at War on the 15th and 16th of August? Entry forms are available to download from our website westwiltsmvt.org.uk

    The MVT representative will visit you and inspect the vehicle, they usually research chassis and and engine numbers etc to ensure that the vehicle is correct. They then complete a form and forward it along with photos taken during the inspection to the MVT verification officer who then sends them to DVLA. I don't know how long the suspension of verification will last, it depends on how quickly DVLA resolves the problem.

    The MVT have suspended their verification service until they get clarification from DVLA with regards to the registration of previously unregistered vehicles, when they get clarification from DVLA then verification will resume. Ax soon as we Area Secretaries are informed that verification has resumed I will post the news on this forum.

    I have been told that ALL RWMIK+s are to disposed of, they have been in limited use for over a year, there are rumours going round that a foreign army may be interested in buying some of them.

    Interesting to see that most of the armour has been removed, must still be classified, it would be quite easy to replicate as it is all flat sheets. It is worth noting that the GVW of a RWMIK+ is almost 4.8 tonnes which means that it can't be driven on a post 1997 category A licence. One very major fault with RWMIK+s is the fact that the chassis cracks in various places due partly to the weight and partly due to over exuberant driving. Replacement chassis simply do not exist.

    The plugs that I have are genuine Lucas, some are in original Land Rover packaging.

    These lamps are still in use as part of the CES for Cvrt, they are not listed on the CES for Defender or Wolf. They do sell for ridiculous money on eBay, don't know why as they aren't particularly rare. The colour is correct and the 'lens is actually a shade to keep the light out of you eyes when using it. A friend of mine who has a militarization shop has quite a few of these lights, but the plugs had all been cut off, apparently the plugs are very sought after by certain classic car owners. I do have some new plugs available if anyone is interested.

    The MVT have recently suspended verification until they get clarification from DVLA as to their guidelines to registering a previously unregistered vehicle. This is a bit of a long shot, but does the current owner have a receipt from Ruddington or even the catalogue with the lot marked? It may be an idea to ring DVLA, the odd time that I have rung them they have been very helpful.

    Non screened or unsuppressed plug leads plug leads cause a crackling interference on radios. Back in the 1960s I remember someone in the village that I lived in had a motorbike that was unsuppressed, every time he rode past the television would crackle and flicker, so it is very important to eliminate interference on military radios.

    They are for shielded ignition cables as fitted to FFR Land Rovers. The outer cable screws on to the thread at the top of the plug and the inner makes contact with the contact inside the plug body.

    I used to have a set of 3 simulated Clansman radios in my old 109FFR, the previous owner had painted over the 'simulated' on the data plates and had wired in a 2 core cable to illuminate the bulbs. As my Land Rover was excellent Military Police it had a 2 core cable for the blue light, I simply connected the blue light cable to the radio cable.to simulate working radios.

    I once had a B.L. Princess painted in a lurid pinky purple, when I had its number plates stolen the police asked the colour and I replied that it was Vile. 6 months later I was stopped by the police one night and among the questions they was "what colour is this vehicle?" when I replied Vile the 2 coppers burst out laughing. As the police national computer had VILE as the colour. Admittedly this was over 20 years ago, either the person who entered the colour on the PNC either had a sense of humour or was rather dim.
