Jimh Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 There must be plenty of them in circulation so someone else must have noticed. The LW does seem to be a very nicely designed and built piece of kit. It is about three trillion times better made than the PoS that Sentinel built but that is another story. The question is has anyone else noticed that the roller bearing on the end of the camshaft wears very quickly? It's the one which slips into the timing case cover. The problem appears to be that it is fully enclosed on one side and relies solely on oil splashing off the timing chain. However, the shape of the camshaft timing sprocket would appear to shield the bearing so it spends most of its time bone dry. The fact the bearing is knackered when everything else on the engine is fine would appear to support this. Is this a common failure? If it isn't then we can just stick another roller bearing in and leave it at that but if it is more common then it might be worth putting a proper oil supply to it. I find it odd that Gardner didn't do it in the first place. Quote
Stormin Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 You could try here for some more information. http://www.gardner-enthusiast.com/content/blogsection/13/80/ I'd be surprised if there isn't some easy fix. Quote
Scammell4199 Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 I have two 6LWs which I intend to use to make one good 'un to fit in my Pioneer. Its not a problem i've heard of before, but when I get my two stripped down i'll let you know what they're like. Quote
