For those that have never been before it can be very disapointing, it's never advertised & you get very few public turn up & those that do turn up are just walking by.... not one I would recommend travelling any distance to... Never seen a BBQ there & would imagne that they are not allowed as the show (Meet would be a better word) is in an open public area Edited October 25, 2008 by Marmite!! Guest catweazle (Banned Member)
Lee is correct about this event,i allways go as its not far,its a shame the musuem dont advertise a bit more,it is worth the journey if you have not seen the musuem, stay overnight, not for me.There has been a thread on last years with pics.cw. Tony B
Firepower don't advertise much do they? I was asked by someone who lives in Woolwich were it was. If you do stay in the Academy, beware of the Ghost!!
Redcap
FWIW, there's a Firepower event that's normally held in the beginning of the year as well - I'll try to post up about it nearer the date, but think Feb/march, iirc.

rosie
thanks for the pm's Steve I did organise a trip up there last year for our club members and we arrived in a mini bus, we had a brilliant day and an excellent look round the museum, everyone said what a great day they had. I was just finding out what the overnight accomodation was and then will take this back to the club and see if anyone is interested in doing the whole weekend. No doubt we will be back again next year, so look out for us :-D

steve ryan
Hey Rosie, you might find accomadation in the Acadamey available, if you don't mind ghost's. OK Tony tell us more about the GHOST'S please
Tony B
Bear in mind there has been military presesnce on the site since about 1639 till basically 2000. The Academy has the ghost of a young officer who shot himself after cheating at cards. Van Brugen's house is also supposedly haunted, the MOD Police dogs hated the place. the gaurd house supposedly has a ghost of a sentery who froze to death. Numerous stories of young boys who died in acidents over the years. Both sites East and West have apperaed in episodes of London's burning , the bill, Alas Smith & jones and a porn film where it was all painted pink. That was filmed in Febuary, and included a lot of voluntary overtime on the part of the Security detail. :cool2:

woa2
Hey Rosie, you might find accomadation in the Acadamey available, if you don't mind ghost's. I've spent 3 nights in the acadamey over the last 3 years and never saw any Ghosts, and the only noise in the night was snoring. I remember it was a bit warm there, so blankets are not needed. Tony B
There you go then! The snoring frightened them off. :-D The other one is Airey's fingers: When Airey Neaves car was destroyed by the IRA it was sent to what became the Woolwich East site, (adjacent to Belmarsh). Legend has it that two fingers were found in the car, and buried under a rose bush adjacent to a large Willow tree. The story was if you went round at night you would feel a tickiling on your neck. towards the end commercial security was used on the site. One particlar gaurd was told this story and sent out. This tree and rose bush were near a clocking point and it wa sbreezy night. About twenty minutes later he was seen running for his car and driving out through, very nearly litterally, the gates at high speed. Never to be seen again. Investigation found the security clock , his cap and torch by the tree clock point. Apparently he then phoned the company's control room babbaling that he wasn't go back there because of eveil spirts. The tree branches blowing in the wind had touched his neck. As usual I got the blame and bollocking for telling him of the story.
