antarmike
Hitler's bombers hitting London, not the RAF airfields has given a respite to the strained service. After a week of attacks on London, fires have destroyed big sections of the city but the RAF has gained enough strength for a new offensive against the Luftwaffe. Today sees the RAF claim 185 kills, (although the true figure is probably nearer 60) The losses however are significant enough for Hitler to realise that his plans for an invasion have to be abandoned. antarmike
Other sources state the RAF claims to be 172 Kills, 41 probables, and 72 Damaged. AA gun crews claim another 7. RAF losses are stated as 25 planes shot down, of which 13 pilots were killed. Edited September 15, 2008 by antarmike
