At the BA Stores show at the weekend Adam Elsdon met the owner of this Fergie tractor, she had approached him to ask about the Ministry of Supply plate and if there was any way of finding more history about it. Hopefully she will find her way onto this forum, anyone into military tractors then?

If you have a grass airfeild, you got to mow it. Ferguson, David Brown & fordson supplied a lot of tractors, especially to RAF. Ministry of supply vehicles were supplied to military research establishments such as Aquila, Aldermaston and Fort Halstead.

The Fergie guru's at the show dated it as August 1951, the ERM is 11BY20 and it looks as though it was originally painted green top to toe, the ERM is still visible on the rear diff and at the bottom of the radiator, under the flaking paint.

Nice little machine, and certainly a change from the usual military vehicle, and its "POST WAR" so its entitled to come over to the darkside!!:-D

Come down to old warden on sunday and you'll see us using a fergie, a super dexta, a Allis 'B' a ferguson-Brown and an Austin to tow aircraft of the right era about same as we always do every airshow. That is if I sort out why the Austin's fuel system has bunged up again:argh:
