Snapper
I hope I've uploaded this correctly. There is a sequence of snaps showing Norwegian F16s intercepting a Russian Bear plus tankers and fighter escort. It my take me some weeks to make an engraving..you all know my computer skills... Snapper
I wish! I presume the RNorAF F16s were a pair and one had his box brownie to hand. What is the Russian fighter? MiG or Sukhoi ???? m
Tony B
That I think is the Sukhoi. It is a basic aircraft from the design 7 material point of view , but extremly capable, never underestamate Russian enginnering, where it needs to be good it is, and where it needs to be fixed it can be. ArtistsRifles
Looks like an SU-30-M. Last I heard the Soviet airforce only had 9 operational ones so could be classed as a rare sight!! The tale is told of one of the later model MiG's who's pilot defected c/w aircraft and landed in Japan and who was handed over to the USAF. US experts examined the MiG very closely as would be expected and during the de-brief of the pilot he was asked about the crudity of the avionics - valves were still in use. His reply was quite simple and revealing - he said in the event of a nuclear exchange his MiG could still fly and fight whereas the sophisicaed electronics on the US fighters would be fried by the EMP's. Like Tony B says - never underestimate the ingenuity of the Warsaw Pact forces. Where it counts the engineering is VERY good indeed. (crew comfort sady doesn't get included in the "where it counts" areas though) Edited May 9, 2008 by ArtistsRifles
schliesser92
That one in Japan was the MiG-25 FOXBAT, which was eventually taken apart, crated and then handed backto the Soviets (as they were then).
