Adam, Rolls Royce actaully produced gas versions of B Range engines, used in a variety of applications, ranging from stand by generators to buses around the World. I have seen a record of all the engines they produced and in to what they were fitted and it included Bedford TK lorries. I recollect one customer name, who ran a number of RR gas powered vehicles, was Marks & Spencer. There were also notes about faults occuring and one was overheating, resulting in head and / or block distortion. Richard
Adam Elkins
Where would i be able to find the info i need? I have'nt got the funds for a profesional to fit one, so a DIY kit is wot im after aslong as it is'nt to complicated to fit.

Adam, I doubt that Rolls would help, they washed their hands of B Range several years ago, selling off all the spares stock. I do not know if there was any major differences in the engine parts, so suggest that you should try and get hold of a service manual for the gas version, to see what it entails. Adam Elkins
Cheers So can anyone help me on sourcing a service manual for the gas version?
Richard Farrant
Here is a photo of a new gas version of a B60 or B61, you can see the main parts that replace the carb.
Adam Elkins
Looks complicated to me and exspensive. So i would need that whole unit then? Is there no way of retaining the original carb?
Richard Farrant
Looks complicated to me and exspensive. So i would need that whole unit then? Is there no way of retaining the original carb? These versions were 100% gas and could run off mains gas as well for static units. You might be able to do a dual fuel conversion, but would not think anyone had done it before, so there would be a lot of trail and error I guess. Tony B
The system is basicaslly very simple. Think of the jets on a gas cooker, and stick them in the top of the carb. the beauty of the B60 is that you are loking at an engine designed to run on anything from paint thinners up. The big problem with DIY conversions is insurance. There have been a lot of cases where gas tanks have detached from vehicles, not unaturally it make insurance companies and various oficious bodies very wary. Try Dakar Motors at Swanley, Barry does kits for vehicles and is clued up about military and other oddities. I'll PM a number to you. Fork lifts were running on Propane when I was a kid, so it isn't new technology. Try Sean 101 he's in Eire now , virtually every vehicle over there runs on it, he might know some places. Guest catweazle (Banned Member)
When you have done all that start saving for a replacement engine,i see 4 range rovers a month that have suffered thro gas conversions. The ignition system has to be 100% the backfires on cold damp mornings create some spectacular damage, allmost works of art.GAS IS FOR COOKING.:nono:

Guest catweazle (Banned Member)
We are finding that what with the lean burn ecu mapping, this stuff we call petrol now but isnt what the is it ,it leaves oily residue, doesnt evaporate freely.and gas the poor engine doesnt stand a chance. As we say if you have all three its death to your --- hole.:shake:

Adam Elkins
Cheers guys. Prehaps i will give the gas conversion a miss if its going to damage the engine in time. Dont want to be trying to find a replacement or fitting another engine.
