MartinN
I have a 1940’s Raleigh bicycle. The bike needs new tyres. I have tried a number of local bicycle shops no help, they are all only interested in modern bikes. Does anyone know anyone who sells these tyres? sirhc
Look up Michelin world tour. That’s what’s on my parabike.
REME 245
What diameter are the wheels.
MartinN
24” diameter 1”1/8 wide.
Le Prof
Hi @MartinN Parabike tyres are 26 x 1"3/8, and I usually buy Raleigh Records for them which are easily available. I can find Raleigh Record 24 x 1"3/8, but not 24 x1"1/8, which seems to be only available as a modern BMX size. Are you sure of the tyre size? REME 245
Are we actually talking about a Para Bike here? It has not been mentioned. For my BSA Infantry Bike I sourced the 28" diameter tyres from a Dutch company.
Le Prof
Hi @REME 245 You are quite right, the original poster isn't talking about a BSA parabike, since he mentions Raleigh. (it may not even be a military bicycle) since he doesn't say). Sirhc mentioned Michelin as a source for parabikes, (incidentally, Michelin was an original supplier for parabike). I was just adding another source for a traditional tread pattern which may also be applicable to a Raleigh of the period if he can find the right size. MartinN
It’s not a para bike. Just a bike of that era. I measured the width just rim to rim.
MartinN
I will re measure.
Richard Farrant
1 hour ago, MartinN said: It’s not a para bike. Just a bike of that era. I measured the width just rim to rim. Bicycle tyres as measured by the overall diameter of the tyre (not the wheel), so I suggest you need 26 inch tyres......
Le Prof
Hi, @MartinN I agree with @Richard Farrant I just measured a parabike wheel without the tyre, and it is close to 24" diameter x 1" 1/8 width. So the 26" x 1" 3/8 should fit fine, and was a standard WW2 size. Best Regards, Adrian
