British snatch block identification sought

Niels v

Question

I have recently acquired these two ww2 era British  snatch blocks and I am wondering if anyone knows their intended use or what they where issued to.
They are for 1.5” wire rope but are only rated at 2.5 tons which I find to be very little for such a wire.

I think you will find the rating of 2.5tons refers to each each cable the block is used with, in your case one on each side of the main pulley and one to the central eye giving a total of 7.5tons.

I am basing this on the similar Fellows snatch block used on the Foden recovery which had a rating of 45tons when reeved with 3 cables.
