MatchFuzee
It could be Helvetica [although I'm not sure about the ( ) ] which is a font used for engraving. https://www.aandlengraving.com/font-chart-for-engraving.html Edited March 10, 2023 by MatchFuzee

You are right about the R With the old engraving machines, depending who manufactured them there may have been a slight variation in the letters even for the same font. If you have a local engraver, hopefully they have the exact font.
John F
It can't be Helvetica, that font doesn't have a flat top 3. There are font search websites out there where you can upload a picture of the font you want to have identified... one of those might be your best bet. ltwtbarmy
@skyline-stuTry ‘Routed Gothic’ font. As one of the links I found states- “A common lettering style found on technical drawings, engraved office signs, computer and typewriter keyboards, and some comic books and avionics from the mid-20th century.” https://webonastick.com/fonts/routed-gothic/
MatchFuzee
I have to agree that the R is better in Routed Gothic than Helvetica font, but the ( ) are different from those on the plate.

Given the ( ) do not line up with the text could the ) have been put into the engraver bed upside down to the left of the text and likewise the ( upside down to the right of the text? david1212
Given engraved it may well be a Pantograph font. The logical one would simply be Pantograph regular. Have a look at https://eng.fontke.com/font/23694240/ https://fontshub.pro/font/pantograph-pro-download https://gravograph.no/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/software-fonts-catalogue-2019-02-v6-EN-web.pdf
