Rommel's Staff Car

Hello group.
I hope you can help and hope this is not a duplicate post.

I am looking for the type of staff car that Rommel was in when he was wounded in an attack by Spitfires in France in July 1944. I understand it it was a "Horch" but do not know the specific type. He used a "Kabrio Kfz 21" in Africa I know, but do not know if this was the same car or type he used in France. Any help much appreciated, thank you!

Stated as Mercedes in the first piece but Heins may not have known the difference between a Horch and a Mercedes:-

The son of Bremerorde Burgomaster Heins, who was eye witness of a accident with which Field Marshall Rommel met in France, volunteered the following statement.

Heins was travelling in a German Jeep(Kubelwagen)from Livarot to St.Pierre-Sur-D'Ile. In Livarot he was overtaken by two open Mercedes cars, and he noticed that a General was sitting in the first one. He followed at about 550yds distance. Their average speed was about 80 to 100 kms per hour. The General who was Field Marshall Rommel,as Heins learned later on,was sitting to the right of the driver. Another two high ranking officers were sitting in the back, whilst Rommels Adjutants were following in the second car.

Both knew that the Allies basically now ruled the skies over that part of Normandy and Dietrich suggested that Rommel take the back roads and use a small and less conspicuous Kubelwagen.  Rommel ignored the idea and left in his large open Horch staff car.

The photo of Rommel in a car with driver shown above, is a Mercedes-Benz 230 4 door convertible, its also grey and the driver is not his usual " Daniel" but a Luftwaffe Unterfeldwebel, so very likely a Luftwaffe vehicle just being used on the day of the photo.

So it unlikely to be a Normandy photo  or of the vehicle he was in when attacked,

Not Rommel, That is Waffen SS General Sepp Dietrich on the left of the photo and its his Horch Kfz 21 Kommandowagen that was damaged in this air attack, the fire was put out and he drove away.

Indeed. The same picture, along with the car being driven afterwards, can be seen scrolling down this forum thread-
