It is a year round coolant inhibitor, lubricates the pump, stops corrosion, keeps the system clean and raises the boilng point. I have seen mv's in Australia with cooling problems, brown sludge coming out of the rad when removed, when you suggest that antifreeze should be used, they think you are mad, because it does not freeze (there are some parts of the country that do freeze of course, but this was not one of them!).
