  1. I just recently had the same problem. I lost two torsion springs (or radial springs) from my clutch disk and the rest where all loose. Luckily enough, we have a local rebuilding shop that happened to have one ready to go. It really is fairly easy to replace the clutch. Once I had the accessories disconnected and the floor pan removed, I removed the transmission top and attached an engine hoist with an engine leveler to remove the transmission from above. Reinstalling it was a breeze. The engine hoist and leveler kept everything in alignment so I had no trouble. I personally am not a fan of transmission jacks as they are a pain the the butt to get level while stabbing the transmission. --Nick

  3. It would have either been straight steel or diamond plate steel. I can't say for sure of your model, but on my M7, it has both. --Nick
  4. Well, I haven't posted in awhile so I thought I'd stop in a say hi. We are pushing to get the truck done in a month as we have a show coming up so it's getting close :-D.   5. I don't know, I think customs would seize the tankers and start making excuses for them not let them go thru so they could keep the fuel :roll:. What kind of fuel mileage do your modern cars get (I should specify, what do the cars get and what do the pickup trucks get)? I've heard the European cars get a lot better fuel mileage. --Nick
  6. I know that fuel prices are much lower on this side of the pond but we reached an all time high of just over $4 US but they are now back down to $2.69 when I saw them today. They were $2.73 last night when I filled up but I'm just glad they are lower than they were and are still dropping (knock on wood). --Nick
  7. Jack, I'm having dinner with him next week, I'll put in a good word for you :naughty:. And yes, we do get up late. Sometimes when I get a chance, I sleep in to 11:00am or later :roll:. I put my marker right on top of my house. Anyone else do that? Too bad the satellite image of my place is from 2002. --Nick

  9. Wow, this looks great now that the colors are set. I was afraid you were going to leave it those god awfull shades of blue. Looks good now though, good job.
  10. Nothing about it here either. There were a few shows about D-Day on the history channel during the day but come night time, it was back to their regular shows.

  13. I was wondering if anyone over there in the UK could help me find the info on a LUCAS headlamp. It is a 700 headlamp model #54521870. After hours of searching the internet, I couldn't find any info and only found one for sale that was in Belgium. I was wondering if they are available in the UK and how much they cost. I have one installed in the left hand headlight bucket on my CCKW (I can't say driver's side as you guys drive from the wrong side :lol:) but the right side has an older French made one. The bulb is made by Trifa of Germany. Their website says it is reference #00500. Again, I'd like to find out if they are available in the UK and how much they cost.   15. I'm no expert but two ideas I had are: 1) The battery may be low, my battery turns very slowly if the battery is low. 2) The battery may not have enoughcold cranking amps. That's about all I know about it, maybe someone can expain how much cold cranking amps you need in the battery for your purposes.

    D-Day

    Well, I would drive it to school for the day but it still isn't up to par and I'll already be out of school. Hmm, maybe I can set something up with the local Legion of Valour museum next year.
  17. Well, I suppose it's time to start this blog that I said I was going to do awhile ago. Since it has finally stopped raining for the past month, my father and I have been able to get outside and restart the restoration on the truck. We were able to fix the rusted out sides and plate the floor so we could get the seat back in for the insurance company. The cab looked like swiss cheese before and is probably stronger now than it was originally.These are only a few highlights of the work we have done. Now the next step is to take the front clip off, sand blast it, and start repairing the fenders.
  18. Would anyone like to post the article for me? It seems my local Barnes and Noble doesn't carry Classic Military Vehicles but does carry Military Machines International which is an ok magazine but not as good as some others.
  19. Can anyone post a picture of a Challenger? The only Challengers I know of are farm tractors made by Caterpiller.
  20. How do you like this find? http://ctm.clanservers.com/IH%205%20ton%20009.jpg It's an International M426 5 ton tractor truck that is less than 10 miles from my place. Unfortunatly however, I have absolutely no room so I this truck is not destined to be mine but I do have someone that may get it. I have also spotted a ww2 jeep (I have only seen it at a distance, I don't know if it a MB or GPW), several ben hur trailers (no time to stop and look but know where they are now), a directors trailer still being used by a farmer going down the road, and a civilian but war dated Catepillar D7. Eventually I will follow up on the ben hur trailers and the jeep.
  21. Now that's what I'm talking about, lets get some of those old warriors back here in the states. Now that I think of it, anyone have a weasel they want to send back? Oh, and a directors trailer to haul the weasel around in. Hmm, I better stop now or else my list will just keep on growing. :oops:
  22. Ok, Jack needs a little help on this one. I placed a no vote for you. I know that tires are very expensive so I too plan on running the Norwegian tires on my truck for a little while (maybe a year or even more). If it was a jeep, that wouldn't be so bad, but here in the states, it's going to cost about $3000 not including shipping for the tires for a CCKW. Now I haven't had my truck nearly as long as any else here on the boards, but I would say that Jack should take his time and just use the tires he has now. Alright Jack, now it's two of us against the rest, we can do this .
  23. Well, it seems I am one of those kids that love MVs . I am now 16 and am helping to restore a jeep for my older brother and have a CCKW for myself (I always did like bigger trucks, I still have all of my Tonka trucks that I played with as a small boy :roll:). Hopefully it won't be too terribly long and I will be driving my deuce to events. Some of my friends think I have a weird hobby, but then they have never gone to an event and seen all of the heavy metal (and they thought playing army games on the computer was fun :roll:. --Nick 8)

  25. Wow, that looks great Jack. That gives the inspiration to keep on with my truck knowing it will look like that and hopefully by the end of the summer. Keep up the great work with your next project.
