revcomr2
Is there a way to adjust the steering wheel play on a 42 GPW. It has about 20 - 30 degrees of play on the steering wheel before it has any action on the wheels turning left or right. Tried looking online via the usual channels and can't seem to find an answer. Any pointers gratefully received. TIA
sirhc
There is an adjuster on the side of the steering box. If that doesn’t help you could get one of these: https://www.jeepsudest.com/boutique/25-direction/2816-tightsteer-reducteur-jeu-boitier-direction-jeep/ or do it properly and rebuild the steering box. Pete Ashby
It would be a good idea to check all of your steering linkage for ware while your at it this sort of problem is often a combination of ware or poor adjustment in all the components. One point about the cross shaft end thrust adjustment make sure you have free movement through out the full travel lock to lock of the steering wheel it is possible to adjust the free play at the mid point and have the cross shaft biding or too tight in the worm on both left and right full lock .
