I understand that you can find them in the South of France at reasonable prices, where there is little interest in mv collecting and they have only been used as runarounds or farm hacks. Why would you want to selling your MB for a M201?? It beats me :? I know the M201 was a better jeep, better electrics, water proof ignition, strong more powerful engine, strenghten transfer box etc etc. But surely an orignial wartime MB would the one to have? commander Posted November 23, 2005 Share Posted November 23, 2005 I have seen the cheap jeeps that have been civilianised from down the south of france a lot have had a diesel engine put in all the military stuff taken off , yes you can get one for less than £3,000.oo. but then you have to get it back to the UK so the economics, 1000 miles roughly each way if you live in the midlands, ferry cost car plus trailer, motorway tolls each way, meals and accomadation for 2 people, hire of trailer if you can do this for less than £700.oo. you are doing well and remember you are relying on someone being honest about the vehicle I went to just north of Switzerland to pick up a jeep when I got there and saw the fibre glass repro body on it I was gobsmacked but as he said I never asked if it had a fibre glass body on it , that was a real learning curve for me, also when you get it back to the UK it is not cheap to register them, the only way to do it is to take a large flat bed truck and load 6 at a time up Commander than £500.oo. you can do this for less Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I had a wasted trip into France to a well known Jeep dealer who , after numerous e mails and phone conversations claimed he had all sorts in stock, only to find when I arrived there none of this existed. And purely as a coincidence, he had also lost the ability to speak English or understand my French There are Jeeps to be found at good prices,as I got mine in Belgium , from a car dealer!! demon Posted November 24, 2005 Share Posted November 24, 2005 If it was Le tout Terrain I have been there a couple of times now. The first was to buy a trailer and he had exactly what he said on the phone. If you deal with the son (he's about 25) he speak pretty good English. The second time we were on the Bethune trip and one of the jeeps suffered a knackered dynamo. We dropped in to find the 3 guys very helpful in searching for a 6 volt dynamo and and testing it once fitted. One of the guys also bought a trailer whilst there...a little expensive as his stock was low but very original. The cheap jeep is a myth when it comes to buying one from someone who know's what they're talking about. Also if it's cheap you'll end up spending loads on the missing parts and the resto.
