Larry Hayward
According to Windscreen, the FBHVC has got wind of another proposal from the Government in the form of a Private Members Bill from Graham Stringer MP who wants to deal with anti-social use of motorcycles and quad bikes etc. Apparently the Bill if passed would make it illegal to own an unregistered motorcycle or other vehicle. As far as I can see those that would be most likely to suffer would be law abiding people who own historic vehicles or who are are restoring them - and not the yobs who ride around on unregistered vehicles! Presumably if you had a vehicle as SORN with DVLA that would be registered- and in order as long as you had it off the road - but if you had some kind of basket case project that wasn't registered yet then could fall fowl of the law. The FBHVC pointed out to the MP in question that it is the irresponsible USE of unregistered vehicles that is the problem and not the OWNERSHIP of such vehicles! If the proposed Bill became law I would imagine that owning a collection of working vehicles in a museum would be illegal too! As ever it seems that existing laws are in place to tackle the issue so let's hope the ORVR Bill never gets passed!
ArtistsRifles
Amen to that. What we could do with is a bill being passed making illegal for morons to be MP's - that way we wouldn't keep getting worries about bills coming up where legislature we are all familiar with already exists and is workable. Tony B
Wasn't there some firm had a lot of grief about keeping unregisterd vehicles for spares a while ago? Something to do with some weird EEC end of life regulation. So to keep politicians happy, don't smoke don't drink Don't eat and above all don't breath the air. Why bother to vote? The goverment always gets in.
79x100
This bill was more than a hot topic in motorcycling circles. Everything including works race bikes coming to the UK for a GP and museum exhibits would have needed approval and registering. Fortunately, the Windscreen article has been overtaken by events and the bill has been dropped. Stringer made some lame excuse about technicalities in an attempt to save face. Let's hope that the diesel lads can do the same with the London charges.
Tony B
No bloody chance in London. The nutter is in full flight about Defence Eqipment fairs at the Lonon Convention Centre at the moment. I'm waiting for him to ban the colour green.
