Dodgey
I'm restoring the Ford Jeep engine. As usual the engine has had a crack in the block and before I rebuild it I want to get it Xrayed to check it has been done. Any ideas who can do it? Preferably near Portsmouth. Also should I have it pressure tested - I found a company that will do it for £65.
Karoshi
Not near Portsmouth, but Jolley Engineering, Shropshire I think.
ja020
Not sure about having the block x-rayed, seems a bit OTT to me, although I have not done it myself, you can get a MCI (magnetic crack inspection) process done. Basically it uses iron filing and a big magnet to look for cracks. I would think any local company specialising in this type of NDT (non destructive testing) work would advise you - at least it may save an expensive trip somewhere. About the pressure testing, you could do it yourself with a rubber bung and an air pump. Just replace the radiator cap with the bung and tube, and inflate up to about 15 psi or so. If the pressure does not hold, you have a leak.
Karoshi
Nothing unusual to have a jeep part xray'd
Dodgey
Just had the Ford Engine block checked out and the bad news was the block has four cracks in it. So will now start the search for a second block.....
cripp
I know Dick Pettman had some blocks. Not sure on the price though.
Karoshi
Dodgy, did you speak with Jolly Engineering? He specialises in such repairs, ceramic sealing etc. Worth a phone call.
