thedawnpatrol
Hi I need a wartime Temp gauge or at least the thurmostat end that goes in the rad header tank ? See photo, it appears to need a female threaded fitting, but I presume it has the electrical connections for the wires, or is it a tube ? Any help gratefully apreachated Cheers Jules

Ivor Ramsden
You'll need a gauge with a capillary tube fitting rather than an electrical one. I think they are always female thread but I don't know if they are all the same. Not much help, really. Sorry.
thedawnpatrol
Thanks Ivor I was sure it would be a capillary tube type, but thanks for confirming. I suppose that means that the gauge, tube and thurmostat are one unit? Cheers Jules
Ivor Ramsden
Yes, that's correct.
Ian L
Jules this is a capillary temp gauge, I bought 3 N.O.S units from the 70s 80s on ebay for about £15 each, he had dozens at the time. The benefit of these older units is they have a range from 50' C - 100' C where as the modern gauges seem to go to 120-140C and as our vehicles only run at about 65-75 ish depending whether you have a thermostat fitted ? Every conceivable male / female fitting is available on ebay to connect to your vehicle, I have one fitted on the K5
MatchFuzee
You might find a suitable gauge here and all reasonably priced. http://www.malpasonline.co.uk/s/?Keyword=temperature%20guage&SearchContext=KeywordExactSearch&ClassificationID=96469

MatchFuzee
Speedograph Richfield Ltd repair and recalibrate to original specification most types of Smiths Capillary type gauges but I don't know if this includes fitting new capillary tube. http://www.speedograph-richfield.com/html/capillary_temp_gauge.html
