Packhow75 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 I found a reference in the archive of 21st Canadian Armoured Regt which says that they had to fire 1 decoppering round for every 100 normal rounds due to the amount of Copper deposit formed in the barrel. I've not heard of a decoppering round before... does anyone have any photos please to show how this differs from a normal round - or perhaps just descriptive text. As below... Many thanks Tim Quote

Charlie Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Bit smaller than 75mm but pic shows a 37mm Nudelman HEIT projectile with the lead de-coppering wire still attached. Quote
Packhow75 Posted October 13, 2015 Author Posted October 13, 2015 Charlie Thanks for that. Cheers Tim Quote
Charlie Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 As I understand it for the larger rounds lead foil was sewn into the charge bags. Quote
guykay Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 I assume that the decoppering round was to remove parts of the copper driving ring from each round that fill the barrel rifling? If so how does lead foil or tape in the decoppering round achieve this? Quote
Charlie Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Ha, ha, good question guykay. Read the document Matchfuzee posted above and be none the wiser lol don't think they know 100% why but its a good read if your interested. Quote
