I found a reference in the archive of 21st Canadian Armoured Regt which says that they had to fire 1 decoppering round for every 100 normal rounds due to the amount of Copper deposit formed in the barrel.

I've not heard of a decoppering round before... does anyone have any photos please to show how this differs from a normal round - or perhaps just descriptive text.

As below...

Many thanks

I assume that the decoppering round was to remove parts of the copper driving ring from each round that fill the barrel rifling?

If so how does lead foil or tape in the decoppering round achieve this?
