Hair Bear
This JCB is a little past it's sell by date, DDN Major skid unit and may be of interest as under the yellow paint it appears to be dark green and has part of a plate marked MOD. Any ideas?
Richard Farrant
I think that plate refers to Modification No., but that being said, if there is evidence of green paint, then there was an early JCB in the Army's inventory; Asset Code 7740.1300 Tractor, Wheeled, Earthmoving, Ultra Light - Bamford JCB4 with Fordson Super Major engine
Rangie
It looks like an early JCB 2B Mk1 to me. Some useful parts on it. I have a '66 JCB 3 Mk1, built within 3 months of the transfer from Ford to Nuffield. Mine based on the 10/42. Alec
wally dugan
this l think is a JCB 4C from around 1963 the plate should read modified up to and including
super6
I reckon this to be the remains of a Hydra-digga/Loadall 65 circa 1958/9, as it has drum and not disc brakes
Richard Farrant
I was not looking too closely at the photo and the army list was dated 1968, but no other JCB's were shown unless any earlier ones had been declared obsolete by then. I recollect the first JCB I used was 3 in 1967 and that was based on a Nuffield skid, but it was well worn already.
Rangie
I've screwed my eyeballs in correctly now and spotted the hydraulic oil filters... Loadall 65 I would say on reflection. Fine old beasts, the back actors were fitted to a few things :-)?
Hair Bear
Thanks for the info. It parted company with it's backactor years ago, can't remember why though. Maybe suits an enthusiastic do-er upper!
