scottie
Probably a stupid question but what does the BEEP stand for if anything on the WC-51 Dodge. Paul
Adrian Barrell
Allegedly Big jEEP but who knows if that is true. It wasn't so long ago that the accepted wisdom was that Jeep came from General Purpose....
Tony B
There is another version of the Jeep name. Eugine the Jeep a creature that 'Knew and could do most anything' from the Popeye catoon . Beep seems to be a journalistic invention. My enquiries are the Dodges were always called Dodges, as it was to easy to mix up Jeep and Beep during radio conversations. MB1944
To add more confusion, I recall my father, who served in North Africa and Italy, telling me that the Jeep was originally referred to as a Peep and the larger vehicle, presumably the weapons carrier was called a Jeep. regards John
Brooky
Always thought it was "beefed up jeep"
Lauren Child
There were wartime adverts describing the Dodge as the Jeep's bigger brother IIRC, so that could have lead to Big Jeep.
