Hair Bear
Hi Guys, I hope I'm allowed to post this here. There is a WW2 era boat sunk in Kingston and is hoping to be refloated but they need pumps. Big ones! To save retyping too much the thread is here; http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=68663&page=1 Any help appreciated! Hair Bear
They're looking at 16/17th or bank holiday weekend but what the logistics of getting big pumps onsite without resorting to landing craft, pontoons or Stollies I don't know although there is a public slipway direct off the road within 100yds or so of the boat. Tony B
When I was a youth, I remember a boat being raised in a similar situation by pushing defalted Avon Redstarts into it then inflating. Now I'd use jacking bags I suppose.
Hair Bear
I like the idea but don't know if the superstructure would cope. Mythbusters raised a boat with pingpong balls but I suspect EA wouldn't be impressed if they escaped!
Starfire
The owner has been very careful not to respond to queries about it's insurance status and doesn't seem too keen to pay for any equipment hire. I wish him luck in the recovery, but something doesn't quite add up. Cheers, Terry
Hair Bear
Really don't know on that one. Maybe I'm going soft but someone simply asked for help.
Tony B
Trouble is if she on the bottom with a hole . How do you get a collison mat over it? Otherwise your tying to pump the river. I'd reckon this to be a lifting job not pumping.
Starfire
He seems to think that it was a slow leak, that he was a little too slow in pumping out. From reading the other thread, it appears that the plan is to build a flotation screen out of plastic sheeting and then pump it out, which should work if the sheeting is installed adequately and the pump of suitable capacity. I wish him luck with the recovery and would think that a green goddess or two would be perfect, if he could source them. Cheers, Terry
