Motmeister23
Hello, i find this Smock a long time ago. My question : Is THIS a british paratrooper smock from WWII ? Or Pre-WWII ? (Maybe for the Belgian Army ,Kongo) :-( No label inside, no markings or stamps! End of the arms are with buttons (3x) ? On Pictures from the WWII, i saw only elastic-bands on the end. The Condition is nice and old..hehe:-D Greetings from Germany Oliver
Eaglehurst
Oliver - I think you have a c.1953 Belgian Para smock. Recognisable by the half zip design. This was replaced in 1956 by the more common full zip pattern. Nice example. As a matter of curiosity I am not sure who does the repairs on these smock but on the couple of examples I have they have been extremely well repaired with a dense stitch that looks bullet proof! Scotch Harry
There are quite a few variations of these and is very confusing, cammo type etc, yours is a 3/4 zip variety.
Motmeister23
Thanks for the answer. But is the color different between british WWII and Belgian color? Begian camo is more with yello inside, or? I found this Smock in Wesel/Germany. My idee was: maybe WWII? "Operation Varsity" ? Can be.....:nut: So, o.k. Belgian Army in the 50st........cry,cry..haha
Eaglehurst
My idee was: maybe WWII? "Operation Varsity" ? Can be.....:nut: Alas no.....but that didn't stop folks from dressing them up as Brit WW2 smocks....
Motmeister23
Your right. Next question: Was it allowed in WWII to have (for exampel) the "pegasus" patches on a camo uniform? On a german "Knochensack" ("Bonebag" : paratroopersmock) was only ranks allowed, not the patches of the division. (original, but in the end of the war, i think they used it)
Morris C8
This is just to give you an idea of the colour and pattern of a british smock, my one had a full zip put in, in service from a green over smock. Keith
