zemsi
Hello I need some help in identifying this heavy US-Truck. Picture was taken in the earliy 50ies in Switzerland, probably in the Army Motor Park in Thun. I would guess a Brockway or Mack NO. What do you think? Thanks for your replies zemsi
Maurice
Looks to be a Mack NR . Some ended at the Robert Gill collection .
zemsi
.. excellent Maurice! I agree. This was probably a unique specimen as the Swiss Army didnt have any other Mack's... Thanks a lot
Alex van de Wetering
Chris, My bet would be on Mack NM not NR. Alex
zemsi
Hi Alex Thanks for your input. Could probably also be an Mack NM. It's hard to tell. Greetings Chris
Towbarlover
Chris, My bet would be on Mack NM not NR. Alex Agree to Mack NM; NR has no winch placed between the cab and cargo department. See space on the picture...... Towbarlover
Maurice
could be NM , but mack NR has sapre wheel and storage box behind cab , canvas height is also no clue as the swiss modified the hoops on their trucks . Just the BO marker light position can give a clue , but I can`t see it properly in the picture.
zemsi
Thanks a lot for your replies. Here's the best size of the pic I can get. In the original pic, the truck is quite small. I don't know if that's a Swiss modified hoops/canvas as there was probably only this one truck in (short) service. I've never seen a pic of a Mack in Swiss Army service (except one with a big fuel trailer behind). Greetings Chris
Alex van de Wetering
The reason I mentioned NM was because of the proportions of the nose in the pic of the Swiss truck. The NM nose looks (is??) somewhat shorter than the NR and the nose sits higher on the front fenders......distance from top of the fender to the top of the hood is bigger. But, for me the giveaway is the height of the side lights in comparison to the headlights. With the NM the headlight and supports are approximately in line with the side lights, while with the NR the headlights sit lower.
