question red oxide on wood

I am just sorting the re-useable timber on the MW. I know there is a thread about using Aluminium paint as a wood primer, but does anyone have any experience of using red oxide? I just thought it would save swapping and changing paint as I go from timber to metal?

I used red oxide on the wood for our MW with no problems. We sealed all the knots with knot sealant first.

I've used it before and by gum the wood drinks it in!! :shocked:

It's taken 3-4 coats in the past before a suitable depth of colour/stability is found.

 

The aluminium primer is generally used on hardwood/hardboard where it is full of certain oils/acids and needs to be stabilised, the aluminium primer is used more as a barrier coat.
